Good but not great. Not sure why Marcellus Wiley got so much air time. He was never a teamate and never played against Bo. Seems like they could have found some more players closer to Bo. I wonder if they asked The Boz and he declined.

    This.

There was a good Kansas City perspective with Brett, Gubicza, Dick Kaegel and the Royals' hall of fame director. Happy to see Bo seems at peace with where he is in life.

Watching it last night, I was thinking that I would like to see a 30/30 on the Boz. I read that long feature story about year a few years back. I want to say it was in the Seattle Times, but I could be wrong. He's just an interesting guy who was here, and then he was gone without much of a peep.

I did like the homeless guy's comments on the legend of him killing the boars/dunking a stick and Bo being an anti-authority figure.

I didn't understand the Wiley stuff either.

I liked the discussion of how we would view him in the steroid era. And like the homeless guy with the North Dakota accent said, there is something cool that he was pre-Internet so these legendary stories are like an oral history passed down. On the other hand, I sort of wish he played today just to see Florio, Bayless and other deadly serious NFL people have their heads explode when Bo calls football a hobby.

Missed it, but did they mention Bo Jackson's post-athletic career foray into baked goods?

Wiley grew up in Compton and went to high school in Santa Monica, and was in junior high & high school when Bo was at his peak with the L.A. Raiders. So he was probably a fan, or at least a close follower. Why they didn't explain that, I don't know.

Seems like Howie Long was the only Raiders teammate they interviewed, and Boomer Esiason the only other NFL contemporary. No defensive players who actually had to try and stop him. Someone like Cornelius Bennett, who actually played against him in college and the NFL, would have been good.

Glad to see they included the Tecmo Bowl angle, though with Bill Simmons involved you knew they would. And this was the best explanation of what exactly happened with his hip that I've seen.

We got a preview of that sort of thing with all the editorial commentary about Ricky Williams' decisions (obviously, the drug suspensions and retirements are a huge part of the Ricky story, too.)

    Thirded.

I'll admit I tuned in to see the Nike ad again-- to see if it "held up." It does, and then some. But I was sucked in and watched the whole thing.

On showing Carlton in a Phillies uni.. Just a guess, but I think the director was trying to set it up with, "Look who he was facing-- the great Steve Carlton..." and showing Carlton in anything other than a Philly uni is akin to showing ... you know ... Johnny Unitas in a Chargers uniform... Babe Ruth in a Boston Braves uniform... Etc, etc, etc. It's a tough call, but I see the reason that choice was made.

On another note, though, did anyone catch the shot of Boz on the bench where is name was backwards on his uniform? The director reversed the shot. That one I do wonder why.

I wouldn't worry too much about the homeless guy-- he's a fictional character, apparently.

All in all I thought the doc was a solid ball hit to the infield and beat out for a single, if not a home run.

The nice folks from St Louis probably think it's odd seeing Carlton in a Philly uniform.

Klosterman was there for two reasons:

    1. He's Bill Simmons' buddy. This cannot be overstated.

    2. He's a huge sports fan and a professional pop culture critic, so he was a natural choice to try and tie those two threads together in terms of Bo Jackson's explosion as a cultural phenomenon.

But yeah, they used him WAY too much.
