This is amazing to me. Two days ago, after no one won the Tuesday draw, they set it at $476 million. So in two days and a few hours it's gone up $164 million based on extra and new players. It normally starts at $20 million and takes at least three weeks to get up to $164 million. In this case, it went up by that amount in about 54 hours worth of buying.

Yep, you're buying hope, or if that's too much, a few moments of 'what-if' in your mind to brighten your day. To me, that's worth a dollar or two.

And the lottery is one of the few ways the common guy/gal can achieve life changing (for generations) financial worth. There's not many other ways Joe Commoner is going to become a multi-millionaire.

Which is why it would be great if no one won tonight (unlikely I know). We would be looking at a one billion dollar draw on Tuesday.

If I won $200 plus million or whatever the final lump sum payout is, there is no fucking chance in hell I would ever have a boss again. I don't care how much I like my job. Just no. One of the greatest things about having money is that you can almost buy time to do what you want. I might like my work, but I like doing other things much more.

I have a list somewhere of about a dozen or so jobs I'd like to do for a day or two if I ever won the lottery. Mainly low-paying jobs like making sandwiches at a local deli, driving that big golf ball picker-upper thingy at the range. Stuff like that.

I'd also buy a car wash.

When I was at my last job, there was a convenience store that I used to frequent and it catered to the hard-core lottery player. Every Thursday and Friday, I'd wait in ridiculously long lines behind people buying stratch tickets. If a Keno drawing was coming up, the clerks had to take care of the people playing it before they'd get back to the register to deal with those of us who just wanted to buy a soda.
Once there was a very large jackpot for one of the games like this one. The crowds in the store were no bigger than usual. In fact, many of the regulars were nowhere to be found. After somebody won the jackpot, the hard-core players came back. I guess they kind of view these jackpots the same way serious drunks look at New Year's Eve, as amateur hour.

It has been reported that at this point in time, EVERY possible combination has been covered . . . there WILL be winner(s), tonight . . .

My wife said last night that she would keep her job. She says it's non-negotiable.

I said, "Uh, no. You won't be keeping your job."

Since most of us are saying we only play the lottery when the jackpot gets real high, I'm wondering, would you play more often if you had reasonable odds of winning say $25,000 than astronomical odds of winning $600 million?

    I think I would.
