Liberalism is a worldview that is focused on liberty and equality. Conservatism is focused on retaining traditional social institutions. In the days of slavery, yes, it was a conservative position. The abolitionist movement was a liberal movement for its days. Just as the suffrage movement was a liberal movement for its day.

And no, we are not in one of the most conservative eras today in American history, as Alma said. Our society has obviously liberalized a great deal over the last 200 + years, and it has moved away from a lot of traditional social institutions that we now largely agree infringed on the individual rights that TRUE liberalism puts a premium on.

I'll take a guy unwavering in his Constitutional convictions over a guy who stands on top of his son's dead body for political gain ... Every. Fucking. Day.

Many have been neither indicted nor convicted.
Not exactly winning the hearts and minds abroad or on the homefront, are we.
More Boots On the Ground to plunder Iraq's national museum than to repel these dingleberry gunmen at home.

Every community & movement has low lifes. Compare apples to apples. You can find the biggest piece of trash in the gun control movement, or even better, ignore people like this & match intelligent, honest advocates.

You will support a complete lowlife over a grieving father fighting back in memory of his son because the lowlife is part of the political party you cheer for. Once again proving that you are a political fanboy and nothing more.

I really shouldn't be surprised by this. None of us should given your posting history. That said, you've sunk so low this time that I am actually embarrassed for you.

Tell it to tony. He is ready to back that disgrace of a human being and criticize the father of one of the victims for standing up and speaking out in what has to be the worst moment of his life.

Why don't you ask that guy if he would trade having his son back for the political gain he hopes to get from this?

What would the biggest piece of trash in the gun-control movement have to do to sink as low as attacking a father who just lost his son?

Attacked the dead son, too. Called him less than a man. Don't lose sight of that.

Fair enough. "Conservative" is the wrong word.

We're in one of the most libertarian eras of our history.
