in this climate, who isn't. I'd rather be someplace that I feel safe than just go through the motions.

I want to make it abundantly clear this news is no laughing matter.

But that picture really made me laugh.

There are places where people feel safe? Maybe at ESPN with a 3-year contract...

I've got some good friends in Daytona Beach. If anyone's got names of people staying or leaving, I'd like to see them.

I could be wrong, but I'd be stunned if the sports editor from Daytona ever went to the summer convention (unless it was in, say, St. Pete).

You finally gave up on the P-D to work for daddy's oil company?

    Smart man.

BYH, you apparently don't know what's going on. Georgia Kaney is good people and she almost certainly won't have her job when all this is over. A lot of bad things are happening at the News-Journal these days, and none of them would have happened if not for a bunch of whiny minority owners at Cox Newspapers.

This is being forced by the Cox lawsuit against the family that has the majority of shares; seems that Cox strongly objects to the NJ choosing not to have a 28 percent profit margin and instead using the money to give back to its community instead. As part of the settlement, the paper has to be sold off so Cox can line its pockets.

The Sunday opinion section (6 pages) is being folded into the back of the A section. Page counts have been way down for the past year, too.

This layoff and the other cuts and changes would not have happened if not for Cox. Hopefully, instant karma's gonna get them.

Dave Markowitz might be a package deal with his wife, who is the News-Journal's AME/Design and routinely wins awards.

Yeah, and the pumps are self-service so I really don't have to do anything.
