To be honest, I don't even remember what the actual tipping point "we're outta here" moment was, but the underlying causes were all of the above and many other things.

Many of those members have come back, which is cool, because the vast majority do add to this place. I've always liked Big Tent SJ.

For the first year or so after the "Schism" it got a bit out of hand. Emotions were high and stupidity was being perpetrated by both "sides". I got caught up in it, and I know I was a dick to some people at the time and I regret it.

But when you think back on it, there's a humorous element too, though it wasn't funny at the time.

Board raids? Board spies? Moles? I mean, it's really kind of silly that it was all taken that seriously. I guess the ultimate meta act is to become a spy in a message board civil war.

It's calmed down since then. My impression is that there's been a sort of surface-level glasnost for the last year or more between the two sites, but some of the differences come to the surface once in a while.

    Yeah.

There was this dude who was anti-design, and he started his own message board.

It's kind of a forbidden topic, so keep that on the down-low.

OK, I know about that. I thought the post meant two legitimate sites.

I still think part of it was precipitated by the demise of Random Thoughts. Yeah, everything on there was ridiculous, but when it was gone, all of the ridiculousness spilled over into everything else. And then there were people who felt like it was censoring. Personally, I stopped coming around because it just wasn't fun anymore. I dont post on anything else but Anything Goes, and when the silliness and fun went away, I didn't see the point of coming back too often.
