A challenge for my fellow movie buffs

The stepfather of one of the kids was creepy as hell, and I guess a couple years after the first film, his wife (one of the kid's moms) also died under suspicious circumstance.

Based on this thread, I rented "Igby Goes Down" and "Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys". Yeah, I had a Kieran Culkin Weekend. Igby was VERY good. I vaguely remember when it came out on DVD. Great cast. Kieran did an outstanding job. Just great.
Altar Boys, on the other hand, was a total piece of crap. Even had comic art by Todd McFarlane, which is right up my alley, but it completely sucked. Terrible movie. Even hot-ass Jena Malone couldn't get me interested.

    I add to list:
Heathers (can't believe it's not been mentioned)
    Talk Radio
    United States of Leland
    Mysterious Skin

In "The Adventures of Baron Munchausen" she's briefly nude in an homage to Botticelli’s "The Birth of Venus."

Talk Radio is indeed a good choice.

Because it's been on HBO a lot this month, I'll recommend "American Splendor."

*Coming on IFC in three minutes.

  7. Better off dead is great.
Another 80s classic is Pump up the Volume with Christian Slater.

The previously mentioned 'You Can Count On Me' and 'All the Real Girls.'
    Love both of those movies.

I'll add a few: Simple Men (Hal Hartley film); Floundering with James LeGros and Billy Bob Thornton, who has a bit part as a gun store owner; Kicking and Screaming (not the Will Ferrell soccer movie, the one with Chris Eigeman and Josh Hamilton); Brothers McMullen; and I know it's not all that obscure, but if you haven't seen it, Rounders is great.

Oh, and I've pimped this before, but "Last Days of Disco" is a fun movie. It's about the scene at a Studio 54 type club in the late 70s-early 80s and all the people who hang out there. Features a young Kate Beckinsale and a young Chloe Sevigny (and the dude who plays her creepy brother in "Big Love"). It's a Whit Stillman movie, which means there's a lot of dialogue and people are far wittier in it than they are in normal life. The soundtrack is pretty damn good too.

I don't feel like going through the whole thread, but I'll wager that at least one, if not both, of these have gone unmentioned:

    Lies & Alibis
    Layer Cake

Outside Providence is a great comedy that I'm continually surprised at how few people have seen it.

Maybe it's an acquired taste, but I'll add Bubba Ho-Tep to the list. It was a good time.
