I don’t mind trading for a DB, but this guy?

Jackson is perfectly mediocre, but with excellent speed. Sure, Johnson is the better player, but I think a lot of this was just about wanting him gone.

As much as I loved Kirk, I see the logic in what the Vikings are doing. It seems clear that the front office believed they couldn't field a contender with massive Cousins and Hunter contracts (and hopefully a Jefferson bag) taking up so much of the cap, at least not with as many holes as they have to fill. They've moved on from aging, expensive players and brought in some talent on team-friendly deals.

Everything hangs on the next two drafts (and specifically hitting on a rookie QB). After the 2025 season, they'll either be in the best position they've been in for a decade or O'Connell and Kwesi will be looking for new jobs.

Am I crazy for thinking Darnold is going to be OK or maybe even better than that there? Seems to be a classic post-hype guy. Got drafted as maybe the youngest first-round QB of all-time by the Jets. He never had a chance there or in Carolina but he's still somehow not yet 27. I'll always be intrigued by a guy who spent a year with Kyle Shanahan and is now going to a guy who got eight wins out of Kirk Cousins and a bunch of backups who might have a hard time making an adult flag football team. And if not, hey, he banked another $10M.

I seem to have seen that logic applied to Darnold before, that this is going to be the year he figures it out. Maybe he is another Geno Smith and he figures it out later, but those guys aren't all that common. Maybe his failures with the Jets were due mostly to the team being a mess. Maybe the offensive issues in Carolina held him back, too. I'm just not sure what evidence there is that he can be a good pro.

Regarding the first part of your question, you are crazy for many reasons. This may just be one of them.

What are the chances the Vikings trade Jefferson during the draft?

Kwesi has been adamant that it's not on the table, which probably means it's coming.

Was talking to a Vikings fan the other day and he was expecting Cousins to leave and hoping that the team would just be really bad for a couple years to rebuild through the draft. Minnesota has been in the position Chicago was in for so long. Not really good enough to be a contender, but not bad enough to make an impact in the draft.

Honestly, my only priority for this year is getting Jefferson extended. Given the unlikelihood of actually contending for meaningful things at this point, I want exactly as many wins as it takes to accomplish that and no more.
