What did he do wrong? This scapegoating does not make Shanahan look very good.

The D had been bad for the last part of the season as well.

This is the sort of knee-jerk scapegoating and finger pointing that will keep the 49ers on the outside looking in. You wonder at what point do the near misses get to you, we're seeing it. 49ers held the Chiefs to 19 points in regulation and the touchdown was 15-yard drive off a special teams gaffe. The defense was fine and eventually Patrick Mahomes got them like he gets everyone else.

He won't be unemployed for very long.

He didn't make the stupid decision to take the ball if you won the OT coin toss.

Wilks has become sort of a league scapegoat. He gets one year in a situation in Arizona where he's completely set up to fail. He gets the interim tag in Carolina and turns the Panthers into a respectable bunch only to get a "thank you" and the boot. Now he goes to San Francisco and has to be the fall guy because Shanahan can't come to grips with another Super Bowl loss.

There’s a lot of you who didn’t pay attention to the last half of the season and the forest 2 playoff games. That defense struggled.

In the first half of the both the playoff games the 49ers defense wasn't as good, especially against the run. They did have some line injuries. I know that losing Ferrell really put a dent in their rotation up front. That being said, in both of those playoff games they responded in the second half. Creating turnovers in both games. San Francisco doesn't go on a 27-0 run against Detroit in the second half unless something is holding the Lions to zero.

This is a team showing signs of panic. Someone has got to take the blame, someone has got to be the fall guy. First it was the quarterback, now it's the defensive coordinator....eventually the chain of command goes to the head guy.

If the vaunted 49er offense had been able to do one thing, one single thing, after Mahomes threw that interception in the third quarter, the Niners win, and probably win going away. The defense gave the team about five chances to lock the game down in the first 35-40 minutes, and the team couldn't do it. So spare me the "bad second half of the season." Wilks got canned because the heat for that loss is getting uncomfortably close to Shanahan.

Feel bad for Wilks - I imagine some coach is going to have second thoughts on who they just named as their DC, I assume they're all filled. And who will SF pick up? Vrabel? Staley?

    Belichick????
