I went out and got more of that Hop Head Red. That sh#t is great.

We've got an event to attend Saturday. It'll be schwag beer, unfortunately.

  2. Tried Deschutes Jubelale today when the Writing Waffle's current lady bought one (she remembered I liked the brewery and saw it in a store).

Very good winter warmer. Bitter, but in a good way, with chocolate, caramel, toffee tastes coming through with a little bit of fruit coming in too. Nice, medium feel with great taste. Will have to stockpile if I find it.

Currently enjoying a Brooklyn Lager, a very rare find up here in the Toronto area.

Quite enjoyable. I can find that and a couple of their other varieties here. They have an East Indian IPA that I like too, and I'd like to try the Pennant '55.

Picked up a 4-pack of Sierra Nevada's Narwhal at Total Wine the other day ... can't wait to try it. 10.5 ABV Imperial Stout.

Now this is a thread I can make some noise in...

Made an assorted six-pack the other day of stouts/winter ales. Those cold Miami winters need some warming up, after all.

The Nitro Milk Stout from Left Hand is pretty amazing.

The Mint Chocolate Imperial Stout is from Stone. Really good, lots of flavors.

Loved everything I've tried from Stone, esp. the IPA. But not a big stout/porter guy. Have had some I like a lot, but I tend to avoid them. Get one you don't like and it's tough to swallow that shit down.

Also grabbed a 12-pack of the best of Great Lakes Brewing Co. -- Burning River, Dortmund, Elliot Ness and Commodore Perry included. Yessir.

I used to be an IPA-only drinker, but over the last year I've really started to drink a lot more stouts. Even had an oyster stout. Which was... interesting.

As you can tell, I don't like my beers to be without flavor.

So a local pub that specializes in crafts started selling growlers.

    1) They only sell the beer in their growlers (despite me having like 3 other growlers I could have filled)
    2) They charge more per ounce to fill a growler than a 10oz or 16 oz glass

I've never had problems getting my growler filled at other places, even if it wasn't "their" growler.
And the prices they charge for some of the beer in growlers is absurd. I wanted to get a growler of Laughing Dog's "Dogfather" Imperial Stout..they wanted $45 for it!

Now, I get that they don't have a "house-made" beer that they can sell off for $10 a pop...but $45!!!
I've tried to talk them down to a more reasonable rate...but they are basically selling their beers at 8-9 bucks a bottle. I can go to the local store and pick up a 4-pack of the stuff for $15!

I have to say, I find it interesting you liked the nitro milk stout. I think nitro beers lack flavor. And I don't particularly care for Left Hand (cue dooley_womack1).

    I really, really liked this.

I think living in Ohio has jaded me on their stuff...but Rocktober is pretty damn tasty! Christmas Ale may have narcotics in it...you always NEED another! LOL
