I watched the video. I wouldn't have trusted that thing to ride to the bottom of a mud puddle, never mind two miles down.

They each paid $250K and the rickety tank sailed away,
To their fate two miles deep that was waiting.
Family and friends waved goodbye at the end,
As they stood at the dock all a'praying.

"Push that button right there," said the captain, with flair,
"Your toilet jugs are here if you need them.
"We won't sink too fast, but this ship's built to last
"With no real skill yet required to command it!"

Darkness closed in as the silt settled 'round
the tank as it creaked and lay silent.
Five and the crew seeking Titanic's close view
Became one with the earth and the ocean.

Will Elon Musk call the sub operator a pedo?

Listened to an NPR report on this - a sub captain who knows a bit about these types of rescues said the lack of sound activity from the sonar buoys being dropped makes survival unlikely. Even if it were found, they'd have to get a ship with a crane and a two-mile cable down to it - attach it - and pull it back up. I don't think even a DSRV would help since the thing is so small.

There was a TV movie back in the day about a small sub catastrophe - it freaked me out.

Donner, party of five, your table is ready.

(Good thing they sank just 15 minutes from Tahoe.)

I was reading the latest story about this while eating lunch in a big, light-filled cafeteria, and had to quit after a couple of paragraphs. I’m claustrophobic and felt a sort-of panic attack coming on if I had continued reading. I hope this all works out, but I’m not following this story any longer.
