Oh, if that were a viable option sometimes.

    Dear Board,
It's been a hellacious eight days for my hometown.

First, one of my friends was murdered. The prime suspect has since been captured, and two other people are also under arrest.

Then today, one of my former teachers died after she wrecked her car early this morning. I watched two state troopers and an ambulance fly down the road near my house and knew it wasn't good, but had no idea how bad it was.

Mrs. Thurman was one of the best teachers I had in middle school, and she made a huge impact on my life even though I only had two of her classes. She was always nice and was always smiling -- no matter what.

The next few days are going to be rough on my hometown. I'm most concerned for her two kids and all her "adopted" kids at the elementary school where she was principal.

This is a pretty cruel 1-2 punch ...

  3. KY,

Condolences to you and your hometown. That sounds like way too much for anyone to deal with and hopefully everyone can find comfort and peace during this tough time.

    Dear Board,

Is there a way out of this business? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

    Frustrated,

  4. Dear IJAG,

You're spot-on, except Emmy Rossum only confirms the heterosexual life for me.

    SS,

The last time I got out, it led to cashiering at Walmart. And this time, the economy's even worse. Yet, one of our news reporters got himself a nice new job last week.

A job he found in our classifieds. Awesome.

    Yours,

    Apeman

    Dear board,
Had to laugh at the description for "Rob," CBS' new show that starts tonight:

    Dear KY,

I've already predicted to some of my friends that this show will make it about 6 weeks on the air, which is 4 weeks longer than "How to be a Gentleman" lasted. "Rules of Engagement" should be back on in mid-February coming to the rescue once again.

    Yours,

    Apeman.

Dear good people of the world,

Please keep in mind that some of your coworkers are your Facebook friends. I'll avoid specifics.

    Verse,

Reminds me of an awkward conversation I had with my former boss (whom I liked a lot). He asked me if I was on Facebook after he joined, and I said I was but that we couldn't be friends. He seemed confused and I said, "Well, what if I have a bad day at work and post that you're a jerk?" He said, "You'd say that?" And I said, "Not necessarily, but I want to be ABLE to say it."

He got laid off a few months later, and when I called to tell him how sorry I was, I said, "On the bright side, we can be Facebook friends now!"

    Verse,

My boss and my boss's boss are both my FB friends, but they are blocked from my feed. Every post is set to "friends except xxx and xxx." Gives me the opportunity to vent in general terms without being seen as a malcontent.

Well, for that anyway. I'm a malcontent in other ways. :)

    Copper and IJAG,

The matter was one coworker shit-talking about another coworker despite having about 10 mutual friends, most of who like the shit-talkee much more than the shit-talker.

But yeah, my boss's boss's boss just friended me. Scary shit.
