    Dear maintenance man,

I picked this run-down apartment because I'm a penny-pinching bastard frugal, and I knew what I was getting into. I don't complain when 90% of the stuff breaks, because you get what you pay for.

But on the rare occasions that something I can't do without breaks, you can fix it without the constant stream of passive-aggressive remarks wondering what sort of terrible misdeeds I must have done to cause the breakdown of your amazing handiwork from previous decades. Go fuck yourself and your attitude.

    Love,
    Rick

    Rick,

When I moved to Vegas some years back, my A/C broke the day I moved in (a Friday). It was 106 degrees outside, my landlord said A/C was a luxury and the maintenance guy wouldn't fix it until Monday. I got three nights on a hotel on the dime of the apartment complex for that. Fucking maintenance people.

    Dear y'all,

The night shift here is way too quiet most nights. When I was just a lurker, I remember it being much more lively.

What are y'all going to bed so early for?

    Bored- ... err ... -ly,

    Dear Board,

So, my cat had to be put down on Thursday afternoon. I didn't realize until I had gotten home from work that night that she was gone. My mom came to pick her up and take her to the vet to have her put down. Found a note on the counter that spilled the beans.

I went to my bedroom expecting her to be right behind me, as she usually was when I'd come home, but she wasn't. Got dusty for a little. I hadn't felt the pain of losing a pet for 15, or something, years, and I really didn't expect it to be this painful.

She was 13, and had come down with a severe urinary tract infection that required her to take pills, which where near impossible to get her to take, and prescription cat food. After some time, the cost of keeping her grew to be too much.

She'd grown close with me over the past few years once my brother was unable to care for her. She'd jump into bed with me and fall asleep by my side almost every night.

    Thanks for reading.

    - Kevin

    Dear Versatile,

I haven't been checking on SportsJournalists.com as often after my shifts, but after waiting late at work for an updated AP Mega Millions story, thought I'd check in tonight after being away for a week or so.

Always interesting to see who's up late ... especially you non-Pacific Time folks.

    A fellow desker,

P.S. -- Needless to say, I didn't win. Of course, I didn't buy a ticket, either, and my shop's vending machine will thank me for that.

    Dear Kevin,

Sorry to hear about your cat. Sounds like you lost a faithful friend, and yes, they are missed. Hopefully she did not suffer too much.

When we come home late thanks to the hours we work, it's always nice to be greeted by a happy face, even it belongs to a dog or cat. And cats are always up for some nighttime company.

    wt,

Not on either post, actually. And his name was always capped. And it WAS like 4 a.m. I'm calling "real deal."
