    IJAG,

Can, and will. It's a little scary, especially with the situation with our son, but it's not a surprise and it's more a relief than anything. I was going to grit my teeth and bear it for the next 60 years because that's how I was raised, but nobody was fully happy here.

    RS,

Then you look toward sunshine and a second chance at actual happiness, without the guilt of having been the one to end it. Free and clear!

    Stain,

She would've done WAY more damage to you and your son if she had the ability to keep up the charade. It doesn't seem like it now, but her admission IS the easy way out of this particular situation,

    Best,

    RS,

Fuck man. You deserve better than this. I see your passion about things, and hopefully someone else will.

    Fuck her,

    Rick,

Just keep it PED-free, or it won't count.

    RS,

Best wishes to you and make sure you fight for everything with your son. You both deserve that.

    Dear World:

Hi there. Just wanted to let you know this: We disagree.

Not a big deal, really. You have your opinion. I have mine. The world continues to spin.

But, wanted to make sure we understand each other. You have your opinion and, well, while I don’t see things from your perspective that does not devalue your opinion. Nor does it devalue mine.

In fact, it probably makes each even more relevant because, as I am sure you know, there is solid logic behind every opinion.

We may not agree with the logic. We may find the facts used to support the opinion specious and questionable. But, since it’s rare that someone wakes up in the morning and decides, “I disagree with that,” just for the sake of disagreeing, there has to be some foundation behind it.

Maybe it’s life experience. Maybe something in the past is the basis for this particular opinion. Maybe tradition. Maybe education. Maybe geography. Who knows? Whatever laid the first stone at the base of that wall, it didn’t come out of thin air.

And here’s the thing: That foundation is legitimate. Whether I agree with it or not, it is legit. And to say otherwise doesn’t diminish that fact. Actually, it diminishes my point of view because failure to recognize your right to your own opinion and to your own motives and your own devices would mean that my opinion is on similar shaky ground.

Get it? If you believe something, and I believe something, then the mere fact we acknowledge those diametrically opposed stances gives each credence. If one is dismissed, then — by correlation — the opposing stance would be negated for exactly the same reason.

If you think my facts are false or flawed, that’s cool. That’s your opinion. Doesn’t make you any more correct. It just means that you believe differently.

And once we get to the point of regulating beliefs, well then, we all are in trouble.

    Don’t you agree?

Dear everyone here and all my IRL friends and family,

Your support rocks. I appreciate it. This is a stressful time in a life that absolutely did not need any more stress, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to come out of it better off.

    Love,
    Rick

    Dear Newly Minted Ex,

Good luck. I think we can keep this amicable. But know this: the next one will be younger and hotter than you.

    Love,
    Rick
