A question about renter's rights

    Also check your state in terms of the 30-day (or 60 day) notice. In some states, for the notice to take effect, they have to tell you BEFORE you pay the final month's (or two month's) rent.

    In other words, if they wanted you out by July 31, they would have to tell you on June 30 or before.

    Also, when negotiating, I would not only try for moving expenses, but also for the storage fees. No way you should be out any money for this.

    Worst comes to worst, they say no and you stay put until the end of your lease. They have to legally evict you.

    And if they try to illegally evict you, check your laws about compensation. In my state, you can sue and collect triple damages if the landlord is proven to delibrately doing an illegal eviction.

    Stand your ground on this. Don't let them push you around.
