I love Theriot, but his .266 average, .364 slugging percentage and .326 on-base percentage should not start next year (but I love him and won't be pissed if they keep him at 2B and make DeRosa the super utility).

As well as you know baseball, I'm stunned that you don't think his LF arm is one of the best in the game. He had some incredible assists this season.

Allow myself to clarify ... myself.

I mean one of the best arms of all MLB left fielders.

Which is kind of like being the best football team in the Sun Belt, but whatever.

Fuck that. Hughes and Cano are two of the best young players to come through recently. Getting rid of them will be a major fucking mistake.

And again an utter playoff failure.

Not a single clutch bat among them.

Niiiice post, on multiple levels ...

Best arms among left fielders? OK, Soriano's right up there. But wasn't he your starting center fielder this season? ;)

White Sox figure to still want Jones. Hell, they were begging the Braves to take Maggie for him, even up, a couple of years back.

'Course, if Jones figures he deserves a raise off the horseshit year he just had . . .

A-Rod would look great in candy stripes. However, the Phillies need pitching, not hitting. But with some free agent money that is lying around after the Garcia and Leiber deals, they could get a pitcher.
If they can get A-Rod, Rowland walks and put Bourn is in center.
It's a nice dream for Phillie fans to ponder. It won't become a reality.

Yanks cannot trade Cano or Wang or Hughes or Kennedy or Joba or...

They are loaded with young talent. You can always buy more hitting, but buying pitching is much more difficult (Johnson, Pavano, Wright, etc...)

Cano will be a lifetime 300-.310 hitter. I would almost hesitate trading him straight up for Johan right now. You never know when a left elbow will get sore.

They are two years away from having 100 luxury boxes at the New Yankee Stadium. How many do they have now? 12? 16? Just be patient and let this team mature.

Oh, and sign A-Rod for crying out loud.

    Rowland?

Funny thing is, Philadelphia would probably have some appeal for Rodriguez. Big market. Small ballpark (imagine putting his power in that little bandbox?) Third base has been a problem for the Phillies as well.

But the Phillies don't spend like that and Boots is correct that pitching has to be a higher priority there.

I think the Angels will sit it out, too...or at least they won't make a high enough offer to be a serious contender for A-Rod's services. I just don't understand why. Moreno talked a pretty good game about spending to win when he bought that franchise, but their efforts in free agency have been lacking. They do desperately need the help offensively.

So, you are basically saying the Yankees should not trade for Santana.

That is what you are saying when you insist that they can't trade any of those players for Santana. Not Cano straight up? What do you think the price tag is going to be, a bunch of guys who will probably never see the big leagues like the Abreu deal?

Santana is 28 years old and already has two Cy Young Awards and it should've been three in a row. It will take something of real value to get him.

Sometimes this stuff just cracks me up.
