    Re: The ARod question

hey, buck, please excuse me for being too lazy to read through the entire thread, but per this subject: in '77, bily martin benched reggie jackson in game 5 of the alds. they hated each other and martin seized on the opportunity to sit reggie vs. southpaw paul splitorff, who mr. october couldn't hit.... reggie ended up having a key pinch hit in the latter innings when the yanks ralled to win the deciding game and reggie went on to officially become 'mr. october' six games later with his 3-homers game 6 over the dodgers...

of course, reggie was in his prime at the time. girardi deserves props for having the balls to send a-rod this loud and clear message: you're just another guy now... and you'll be treated as such from here on. i hope a-rod, while no doubt understandably seething and humiliated, continues to suck it up for the tv cameras and try like hell to prove girardi wrong whenever he pinch hits today (assuming he does).

if reggie-'77 is a point already raised my apologies, friends... like i said, i'm lazy....

If the Yankees lose today, the plot thickens fast.

In 1997, Davey Johnson sat much of his regular lineup because lefties had no chance against Randy Johnson.

--Jeff Reboulet started for Roberto Alomar and batted second
--Eric Davis started for B.J. Surhoff and batted third
--Jerome Walton started for Rafael Palmeiro and batted seventh

The Orioles scored five runs off Johnson and won 9-3.

it's true in the AL. They only teams the Yanks have beaten in the ALDS are Minn, Texas and Oakland, since 1995

    Re: The ARod question

In a linear way, ARod has certainly received a largely inaccurate rap as far as postseason hitting. But a Game 5 is not a line, it's a dot product, and the brain trust right there with him had to make a judgment whether in this one game, it was prudent to put ARod in. So far, so good.

A complete fraud who created an identity here for the sole purpose of starting shit. Yeah, no wonder you like him.

Unless A-Rod discovers the fountain of youth, it's going to thicken fast anyway.

Do you guys believe A-Rod will be in the line-up tomorrow?

If Girardi doesn't have confidence to start him in an elimination game, Cashman should just leave him off the roster.

If ARod struggles in the ALCS, but the Yankees make the World Series, that could happen.

I agree with whoever mentioned Miami. Cashman needs to unload ARod on the Marlins. They have the money and ARod would probably thrive in a low-pressure situation. He won't have to worry about the playoffs.

If I was the Marlins I'd tell them they'd take him for the MLB minimum. Yanks pick up the rest.

It's not my money but if I were Steinbrenner I would do it in a heartbeat. ARod has been bad luck for NY.
