That would make some sense, baseball-wise, for the Yankees.

Buerhle would give them a reliable veteran starter if Kuroda leaves/goes back to Japan or if Pettitte re-retires and Bell, if he can get his act together, can give them some insurance in case Soriano leaves and/or Rivera can't come back to his usual form.

Then the Yankees should send Nunez to the Instructional League to work on his fielding at third base, and platoon him with Chavez, should he want to return.

Why would the Marlins even negotiate? "The deal is we take him off your hands for the major league minimum and you pay the rest."

I hope the Steinbrenners are stuck with him. Hell, they already have Jetes through '14 and Teixeira through '16 too. They're heading toward 81-81.

I'm not saying anything, but you might want to get those sores on your lips checked out, bud.

If they make that deal the Steinbrenners would be the biggest morons. The money is already budgeted. Are the Marlins their little cousins, they'll just do them a favor. If his skills continue to erode he can play part time until he shows improvement. Want to put some money on that 81-81 record next year?

I wouldn't say next year, I said "heading toward" and I think it would be more like something in the range of 86 to 89 wins. But if those guys are three-fourths of their starting infield in 2014 I think 81-81 is a pretty fair bet.

Part time until he shows improvement? He is 37 years old and off the juice, and his numbers have gone down every year since 2007. How much do you think he is going to improve in the middle of next year? I do think they'll probably end up keeping him but only because they won't find takers on their terms. And that will be just delicious. They have to play him if he's there, unless they want to essentially spend six months with a 24- or 24 1/2-man roster.

Well it seems he's not 100% healthy now. Don't think he'll really improve a lot but take a look at his numbers vs. LHPs, they were still pretty good this year. They can pay Chavez not that much and have him vs most RHPs. Didn't Rick post the sabermetrics earlier in the thread and say ARod's numbers were above average for a 3B. That's not what you want out of the highest paid player in the game, but no way do you just make a donation to the Marlins or anyone else. Not sure if MLB has definitive rules on how much a team can pay to a guy they trade but i doubt they'd allow much more than half.

Yeah but all that stuff is forgetting how pissed off the Steinbrenners obviously are and how badly they want to get rid of him so he doesn't spend the next five years as a monument to their embarrassment. I am really hoping for the A-Rod as Costanza scenario where he is daring them to release them.

How soon until he's driving around the parking lot with World Series trophies tied to his car?

Do the Angels want to get rid of Vernon Wells so bad that they take A-Rod's money at this for the next five years, perhaps make the Yankees pay half in the final three years?:

    $7 mil
    $4 mil
    $21 mil
    $20 mil
    $20 mil

According to Rosenthal, A-Rod says nofuckinway to waiving the no-trade.

I can't wait for this to get going.

Little Kenny has a nice bowtie collection. How many proms is he attending this year?
