Very sad news. This planet needs AC/DC, maybe more than ever.
I saw them about 15 years ago. They burned the place down, as only they could.

From the mid-70s into the mid-80s, AC/DC made a ton of great music. Who cares about the sameness of the past 30 years?

I don't know dude, for those of that vintage it's like curtains on a fun part of our lives.
Babies were made during their music and inspired directly by it.
I don't get schmaltzy about celebrities but when I heard Malcolm was sick I got a lump in my throat.

What is the matter with you? :) "For Those About to Rock ... " is one of the best rock songs I've ever heard. -- FIRE! -- Still gives me chills sometimes. Love it. And Jailbreak, Dirty Deeds ..., Highway to Hell, Problem Child, Let There Be Rock ... Some really great stuff. And the sameness thing never quite rings true to me. Yes, they have a distinctive sound, but it has worked very well for them. And I think that while the newer stuff has similar themes (mostly women and blowing shit up), it sounds a fair bit different. The only songs that make me change the station are the huge hits that have been played millions of times. Back in Black is a tremendous song, but I just don't care anymore.

I've learned to keep my mouth shut about Phil 'round these parts.

What was even more amazing at that point was that there was even such a thing as a "Warren Zevon tribute band;" "Stand In The Fire" came shortly after WZ's big commercial breakthrough with "Excitable Boy" -- it wasn't like he had been pumping out hits for a decade.

I was lucky enough to see them while Peter Gabriel was still in the band, on the "Selling England by the Pound" tour. That gives you an entirely different perspective on the band and its arc. Gabriel doing "Watcher of the Skys" live gave me goosebumps. Saw them in the Fox Theater in Atlanta, about seven rows back. It's still one of my all time favorite concerts, lo these many years later.

Genesis with Phil in the lead made some very good music through the years. It might have been safe, commercial, middlebrow rock, but they cut a lot of songs that you find yourself involuntarily singing with when they come on the radio. And the drum pickup that opens "In The Air Tonight" was pure percussive genius.
