Well, I had just started a few months before, and we were slooooooow in my group, which still happens from time to time and sends me into a cold sweat panic. And, truthfully, the job is important because of my kids, especially then, when we were in the market for (finally) buying a home. I'm certainly moving away from that mindset now that they are getting a little older - I realize that you never get back a weekend or an evening. But I didn't look at it, at the time, as choosing work over family.

My first kid, I was back to work in 4 days. But I had also just started the job a little more than a month earlier, so I didn't feel too good about taking a long time, even though my bosses were all great and told me to take as much time as I needed.

Second kid, I took 3 weeks, and it was awesome.

Today's surgery is just to put in a feeding tube. Next surgery will be in a month or so.

We're holding up well. Thanks to those who have asked.

I should have kept this private, or on another thread.

I let a post bother me when it shouldn't have, and my reply was unfair to the poster. He had no idea what our situation was.

Oh, I understand. Wasn't trying to imply you were wrong.

I've often thought what would've happened if I was still a journalist when my kids were born. And I then think of all the time I would miss, including the time I missed being guilted or threatened into not taking any time off when they were born. It's one of the many reasons I hate myself for doing it so long.

Now, I'm lucky enough to be in a situation where most people would think it's strange if I didn't take some time off to be with them.

Daughters are the best, YF. And what a fine name you and the Mrs. have given her! Congrats. And I pray the best for all of y'all.

LOL. Didn't expect anything less from you, Dick. :p
I know some disagree with looking at a baseball clubhouse as a workplace setting, but I think it's an apt comparison. If I brought my son to work everyday, my co-workers would get annoyed and rightly so. Same if a co-worker brought their child to work everyday, I'd get annoyed as well. Not because of any dislike toward any co-worker's child, but it simply wouldn't be appropriate to bring a child to work everyday. Especially in this case, when the child is 14.

Fart took six weeks for childbirth- should have taken more.
Needed a vacation just after that.
Drake LaRoche's bassinet was probably in a big-league clubhouse.
