    I know. I guess what I'm wondering is how much that means now, in a league where running backs don't last long and aren't as important as they used to be.

    Basically, I'm wondering how many players would have this been a bigger deal, had it happened to them instead of Peterson. Let me try:

    Both Mannings.
    Drew Brees.
    Johnny Football.
    Michael Sam.
    Richard Sherman.
    Russell Wilson.
    Colin Kaepernick.
    Ben Roethlisberger.
    Andrew Luck.
    RGIII.
    Jay Cutler.
    Calvin Johnson.
    Reggie Bush.
    Tony Romo.
    Cam Newton.
    Tom Brady.
    Mark Sanchez.
    Michael Vick.
    Aaron Rodgers.
    Philip Rivers.

    Is that about right?

    This has been very similar to the humiliation of the tobacco industry in the 90s.
    Six weeks ago the league didn't even have a domestic violence policy.
    Almost nobody is talking about actual football.

    No that isn't right at all.

    If you are talking about "non-fans," as in people who pay so little attention to football that they don't know who Adrian Peterson is, you're talking about three names that would be known in that group: Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Tim Tebow. Maybe Michael Sam. Oh, and Michael Vick.

    That's it. A "non-fan" would not know or care who Aaron Rodgers or Andrew Luck or Reggie Bush is.

    Again someone who apparently doesn't have kids, or one who naively thinks their little snowflake is perfect.

    Definition of hell: A child development specialist with a degree who has never been a parent or even a close-knit uncle or aunt.

    Your son probably has a different definition of hell and it involves his dad jumping on him and beating the crap out of him.

    That is, if your son and family exist. I'd put the chances at less than 50-50 anyway.

    I'd argue the big four quarterbacks and that's it based on national commercials. I think non-fans know who Rodgers and Brees are. You're probably right about Vick too.

    That's just among the guys who are on 53-man rosters. Sam and Tebow are a different situation.

    People knew Peterson a lot more than they knew Ray Rice.

    Delicious irony here is that few speak about Peterson's "kid in every state" kind of parenting. How many does he really have and is he a functional parent if he's seldom involved in the life of any of them? No, that's OK in today's warped world.

    Your math is as warped as your logic.

    There are a few things that work against Peterson, and we're basically talking about Q score here:

    (1) Playing in Minnesota;
    (2) No playoff success;
    (3) Extensive injury history;
    (4) Running back, not a quarterback.

    I don't think it's OK, and I think you're correct about his likely level of involvement. I think that people don't want to touch it with a 10-foot pole because of the racial overtones.
