Advance Publications to scrap employment pledge

    I don't think they're going to wait until Feburary. If papers don't get the boost they are hoping for during the holiday season, it may get very ugly for a lot of papers.

    I guess the positive is how much worse could the holiday season get? It was already pretty crappy. Then again, I better not say anything...

    The Oregonian also will have furloughs in 2010 and will require all employees to start paying for health insurance. (Those hired before '05 had gotten it for free.)

    A few are omitted, aren't they? Birmingham and Mobile in Alabama are two others. Isn't Biloxi part of Advance, too?
