So why get so worked up over the fact that he's posting here? I don't get it. Do you have to respond? There are plenty of posters to whom I pay absolutely no attention for reasons ranging from their overt racism to being just plain old boring. JDV is very entertaining in his convoluted way, at least to me. This other clown, shadow man or whatever, let him bring something to the table, too. More the merrier. I just asked him a straightforward question and I'm still waiting for an answer.

I've read all the JDV threads and while he tries (pretty sucessfully) to push people's buttons, he's usually does it in a pretty friendly way. Also, I don't doubt for a second that he's exactly who he says he is -- law degree, weight-lifting championships, trainer to the stars, chick-pulling phenom. Some folks here seem to have a very narrow view of intelligence. I laugh when people think a guy like Boom or JDV isn't smart because they use poor grammar or can't spell. I'd bet those two, for example, are among the most successful people who post on our board.

And why be upset about the whole "scoops" thing. I found it profoundly funny. I thought he was just feeling bad about what happened to McGwire and wanted to help get another side of the story out. We deal with folks like that every day in this business and try to make the best judgements we can.

  2. Since when is success an accurate barometer of intelligence? Exhibit A: George W. Bush.

Probably a little better barometer than spelling or grammar, don't you think?

I try carefully, albeit unsuccessfully sometimes, to keep my grammar and spelling in check on a board for journalists after being out of practice for the last few months. If you want the audience to listen, shouldn't you be catering to them? I've always learned in PR courses to speak to the audience I have, not the subject on which I am speaking.

I gotta go with Cran on this--not sure why JV's posts are garnering so much attention. They're ridiculous and inane, but to be honest, some of the responses are worse. Hard to understand all the rage over something so blatantly absurd.

Yeesh, I'm from Jersey and I don't understand what's the big deal about him. And nothing pisses me off more than when people try to call him "metal." He wouldn't know metal if I caved his skull in with a steel pipe. I'm sure bands like Metallica & Godsmack pull higher-quality chicks than him. Whatever ;)

    JV,

Aren't there close to twenty powerlifting federations in the U.S. with several national competitions each year?

Aren't there about 8 International federations that hold several world competitions each year?

With all these different competitions, what makes you the 3 time national champ and not some other lifter?

What makes you number 3 in the world if you placed third out of three lifters in only one of these international competitions in only one of the many years?

You did win a legit powelifting competition in the teenage division in 1990, I'll give you that.
You did win some other competitons in the submasters age group after that.

But don't you think that when you call yourself the 3X national champ you're stretching the hell out of the truth? You know you are not the true national champion in the same sense of the word as there is one champion in a sport like football or basketball? Yet you refer to yourself as the champ as if it were in the same context of the word as it is used in one of those sports. You are supposed to be all about integrity, yet you are ok with the fact that you're deceiving everyone on this board. You have posted all your credentials on this board and none of them would lead anyone who has any knowledge in the sport to think you were anything that even resembles the national champion of the sport. You are not about integrity, you have tried to deceive many people for many years in an effort to make yourself look better. Oh yeah, Diablo came to you and wanted to sell your shirts, they were being sarcastic, MAKING FUN OF YOU. HELLO. Here is my good deed for the day. JV, as someone who is sane I am giving advice to you. Delete all of your posts, delete your wikipedia page, and delete your SportsJournalists.com account. Guess what, for the rest of your life, whenever you want to do something and be taken seriously, all anyone has to do is type your name into google and see all of your rants on youtube and message boards. Then guess what, you will not be taken seriously. Face it, all you are is an average lifter with average numbers. The only lifts you can back up are your competition lifts and they are only slightly above average.

We don't care about JDV's bloody credentials. Just let the man post his buffoonery and let it go. He'd be funny if he wasn't writing a freaking novel chapter with each post.
