Less than a month after having my job eliminated, I'll be back working on Friday covering just about as many schools as before six schools for four weeklies.

Celebrated by taking mom to dinner at Mexican Inn in Fort Worth, we had a coupon. Couldn't even finish the Tiffin Hall Plate.

No. 1 - Tiffin Hall – A small guacamole salad, chile con queso, one crispy beef taco, two cheese enchiladas, one tamale with chile con carne, Mexican rice and refried beans. $8.99.

Maryland is a right to work state, but I believe if you've worked at a place for at least six months to a year, you're entitled to your unused accrued vacation time.

I strongly recommend talking to an employment lawyer to at least find out what your rights are, especially if you end up having to take them to court. If you can't afford a lawyer, see if your state has a legal aid bureau of some kind. I know Maryland has it. I had an attorney through that when I went to my unemployment appeals hearing.

Great news, Highlander. But don't let your former employer off the hook ...

I'm a little confused by your post. Were you hired back at your old job, or did you get a new one?

And if it's your old one, did you receive the same pay and benefits, or did they try to screw you.

Sounds like you got a new gig, Highlander. That's great news -- congrats!

But I echo what others have said -- you should still go after that vacation money.

And why do I sudden crave Mexican food? :)

    Congratulations Highlander.

Unlike these other stiffs here telling you to "fight the battle" I'm going to ask you to let it go. It's obvious by what the lawyers have told you and the fact the chain was sold to a new owner that you will not be getting any vacation time pay. That's part of the laws in Texas. However, at least you know and understand the law now, so don't save your vacation time up in the future either.

My advice to you is let it go. Don't hang on to anger or bitterness. Be thankful for the new opportunity you have been given and take full advantage of it. Show them how valuable an asset you can be and enjoy your profession.

    Again, congrats.

When you had 160 hours, it is hard to spend it. The other guy I worked with took his vacation first and I was going to go to Vegas at the first of August for a week. Now, I'm going later in the month and finally getting to see Don Rickles.

It's a new job, just a very similar situation of working for weeklies again.
