I don't get it. Why are so many posters looking at minor league hockey as a glass half empty?

Why not look at it for what it is - great entertainment - great value for the money. We know it has limitations.

Spend a grand going to see the Knicks vs Golden State in a mid week game and then get back to me.

Oh, it's entertaining for the most part, and the prices are hard to beat. Just making an observation.

Boom, there's nothing wrong with the AHL. You're right - great prices (except in Toronto, anyway) and the level of hockey isn't that far below the NHL. There's no confusing the two, but AHL hockey is certainly entertaining.

It's the other minor leagues that I think are a little suspect. I see a fair bit of CHL/ECHL games on TV and it's all I can do to sit through five minutes.

He and Jim Gordon are up in sky having a Schaffer and still lamenting Jean Rattel's broken ankle.

Love minor league hockey and happen to live in a city that supports it.

Saturday night, the local franchise - located far below the Mason-Dixon line - drew 7,083 in a 6,500-seat building for "Military Appreciation Night." It didn't hurt that they rallied from a 2-goal deficit with four minutes remaining in regulation, then won in a shootout.

Also, they have $1 hot dogs and $2 beers for every Thursday night game. So for $20 you can get into the building, grab a couple of dogs and drink 5 16-oz. beers. That's why folks love the minors.

I'm guessing there have been some nights when the two closest NHL franchises, Atlanta and Nashville, would love to have 7,000-plus in the arena.

With the salary cap and smaller rosters in the NHL, some good prospects end up in the Coast because there's no room for them in the AHL. I know of one pretty good junior (JR would have seen him play many times) who had to play in the Central League to start this season until his parent club made some room. He eventually got to the AHL...
