In some parts of the country, schools don't schedule games on Wednesdays because they would interfere with Baptist services that night. So you get basketball tournaments that schedule play Monday-Tuesday, skip Wednesday and play Thursday-Saturday.

There was only one game Sunday -- game three of a best of three semifinal baseball series. And I think, as he said, it was an unusual circumstance. They didn't want to finish it up Monday because it was supposed to be a friday-saturday series but Rain fucked it up Friday so it became Saturday-Sunday. With championship rounds this week, it was an unusual situation.

If Jaysus is so hell-bent against prep sports on Sunday, why did he allow it to rain on Saturday??

So that's how it works down there, huh? You have all the scuzzy SEC boosters breaking all the rules and greasing up high school players on Fridays and Saturdays, but then they go to church on Sunday and have dinner with their families that night to atone?

He didunt... it rained in Biblical proportions on Friday night with lightning, thunder and brimstone. So Friday's DH was moved to Saturday and Saturday's IF game was moved to Sunday.

And yeah, Headbutt. That's PRECISELY how it works down here with a lot of people. Stab you in the back for six days and feel good about themselves on the seventh because its Jeeezuzes day.

Hey Doc, you got a problem with Mike Quade? (guy in your sig) Don't you know that we have some rope and bricks and that Sec Taylor Stadium is situated the junction of the Des Moines and Raccoon Rivers. ;D

The first thing that came to my mind about this Sunday game is the WWL having the high schools play on a Sunday, not the Athletic Association whining about the Christian Sabbath. I find it ridiculous that ESPN would even have the galls to schedule a prep football game on a Sunday.

Case in point here in Iowa: Dowling Catholic (West Des Moines) and Bishop Heelan (Sioux City) had their game postponed due to dangerous storms. As Catholic schools, they were given permission to play their game on Sunday (if they wanted to), whereas the regular schools took Monday or Tuesday afternoon to finish their games. Most of the time, the parochial schools prefer to follow the regular schools in scheduling games. Only the local CYO's will use Sundays for their activities.

There are no Sunday high school games in Arkansas either, ever. If anything's pushed, it goes to Monday.

Wow, this is like travelling back to Ontario circa 1955 where you couldn't even pick your nose in public on a Sunday.

No Sunday youth games because it's a day of worship?

    The terrorists have won.

Washburn did the right thing. But he did it for the wrong reason.

Bravo for Washburn for the exact reason he stated.
