AJC and Hartford Courant not covering Super Bowl

Copy editors can afford mail order brides? Do tell!

One of them thinks anyone who goes the conventional route to marriage is an idiot. I know way more about it than I wish to, but I don't think this thread is the place...

Back to bashing the cheap ass AJC... ;D

OK, strictly devil's advocate here: The game is over, the AJC pocketed dough it would have spent, no one presumably canceled their subscriptions and local-local life goes on in the 404.

How do you convince a publisher or top editor now that they were wrong in saving the money?

The AJC isn't alone with that philosophy.

If your publisher or editor is like most higher-ups who get their jollies over online feedback, get as many buddies as you can to go into the comments on the AP gamer and flame the paper to death for not being there. Of course they could then say "our decision got people talking!", after which you may continue banging your head into the wall.

You can't and thus a new trend in this screwed up business has begun. They realize that they are paying AP to get information so they are more than content on using them. In theory, it should be a boon for AP but it won't happen.

You would think the AP writers would have more job security than everyone else combined. Instead places just stop traveling and they complain they pay too much for AP's service.

You're right Mizzou, this should be a great time to be at AP, but is not the case.

There really is no such thing, of course. Our borders may be leaky, but just try getting a single eastern European woman into this country without a visa (and just try getting a visa for someone you have never met in person and cannot prove you have a relationship with. Ain't gonna happen).

But you're right. Another discussion for another place. :D

Well, now the people in this industry are well aware of how far the paper has fallen.

    Yeah but do they care?

I chatted or traded emails with several friends who covered the Super Bowl and the subject of how many people weren't there came up a lot, mentioning columnists who were missing the game for the first time in decades and inevitably, it would come up that the AJC had no one at the game.

That's not a reason to cover the game. It just shows that people in this business noticed.
