I have a softer spot for the MVP candidate catcher who squats 54 innings a week than for the Cy Young pitcher who compresses his 956 workload once a week.

 

I understand the high bar pitchers need to clear for MVP consideration.

I don't understand the idea they're automatically worth less.

Thirty-three times a year, Clayton Kershaw is automatically one of the two most important people on the field in determining the outcome. His team is 13 games over .500 when he pitches, and three games over .500 when he doesn't.

 

Well, Lucroy *is* 0 for 8 with a walk against Kershaw this year with 3 strikeouts.
