That is how I would rank them at this point, too. Hernandez's complete game victory over the Yankees Friday night certainly helps his cause.

You guys are probably right, I forget to check Felix's numbers since the break.

Still, if Greinke doesn't win, it's an atrocity

Some people have made a big deal out of the fact that Greinke has yet to face the Red Sox or Yankees yet, so that should somehow diminish his case -- like he hasn't proven himself against the big boys. Well, he's made 7 starts against teams that would be in the playoffs if the season ended today (5 against Detroit and 2 against the Angels). In those games, he is 3-2 with 2 no decisions and a 0.87 ERA. Sabathia, in 8 starts against likely playoff teams (3 Boston, 2 Angels, 2 Tigers and 1 Philly) is 3-4 with a 3.59 ERA.

Now, Detroit isn't as good as Boston, but Sabathia has been better against the Red Sox than the Tigers anyway. Basically, it's a very tough sell to say that Sabathia has the edge in this quality-of-opponent category.

I'm a Yankees fan but there is no way anybody other than Greinke deserves the AL Cy Young award. Except for wins, he is in the top three in just about every category.

The Cy Young isn't like the MVP award where value to the team has some influence. Greinke has had an unbelievable year.

Greinke really will run away with it if he comes out of this closing stretch of Boston, Minnesota, Minnesota. If you really want to know how dominating Greinke is, check out the odds for Tuesday's start. The Royals are overwhelming favorites against the Red Sox. That's flat-out amazing. Not that they're favored, but that they are HEAVILY favored.*

*-Odds, of course, subject to change :)

Zack Greinke's performance against Boston - 6 IP, 2H, 0 R, 3 BB, 5Ks. He's allowed one earned run in his last 33 innings and his ERA now is 2.08.

    Royals lead 5-0.

Greinke is still a slam dunk.

    Hernandez: 16-5, two complete games, 196 K, 2.45 ERA, 1.14 WHIP

    Sabathia: 18-7, two complete games, 186 K, 3.31 ERA, 1.13 WHIP

    pro-Felix fodder:

Against the Angels, he is 1-1 with a 2.30 earned run average and a 1.20 WHIP, averaging 6.9 K/9 (four starts).

Against Detroit, he is 2-0 with a 2.25 ERA and a 1.05 WHIP, averaging 10.35 K/9 (three starts).

In his only start against the Dodgers, threw eight shutout innings with nine strikeouts, four hits and one walk.

In his only start against the Yankees, threw a complete-game eight-hitter with one earned run.

Meaning he was lights-out in eight of nine starts against division champs to-be.

Don't look now, but Greinke now has a streak of 35 innings with just one earned run allowed following tonight's six shutout innings. (Two runs allowed overall).

If Greinke pitches 14 innings the rest of the season and allows one earned run, his ERA will be under 2.00.
