He doesn't deserve it. He's 10-10. People who go 10-10 don't win the Cy Young. Therefore, he does not deserve it.

Sabathia is three wins ahead. He wins the award going away if he wins a couple more games.

Mariano's ERA is down to 1.11. If he can throw 10 shutout innings -- which is certainly possible -- he'll have an ERA below 1.00.

He's only got 28 saves, but then he can't control that.

Luckily, the voters are actually smarter about this than you. Most of them understand that pitchers should be evaluated by more than just victories.

But a closer isn't going to win the award and you know it. Not with so many starting pitchers who are deserving and at least two closers who are right there with Rivera for the best in the AL.

I'm right, you're wrong, and I'll be back on this thread to LMAO at you when the award is announced, and King Felix is as close to it as Paris is to Kentucky.

I'm not saying Rivera will or should win it. And one bad outing could ruin his ERA.

But a sub 1.00 ERA deserves notice at the very least and he'll garner a lot of votes. Just not first place votes. (Actually, how many names do they list now? It's not as many as it used to be, right?)

And, Hernandez might be the best pitcher in baseball, and the voters may be better/smarter than in the past, but I still don't think they'll give it to him if he ends up something like 12-12 while CC is 22-6.

It's too big a differential to overcome.

I think even voters who think Hernandez deserves it will be afraid of the backlash of giving it to a 12-12 pitcher if there's someone out there with a record of 22-6, or something like it.

I'm firmly of the belief that closer who pitches a lot of high-leverage innings at a phenomenal level can be just as valuable, if not more, than a great starting pitcher.

Wow, the Yankee hatred sure is strong in some of you guys.

The one thing I think the anti-Sabathia crowd is overlooking in this situation is the fact that, high payroll or not, the Yankees rotation has been a stirring collection of suck pretty much since Pettitte blew out his groin -- and yet, largely because of CC, they still lead the deepest, most competitive division in MLB.

Burnett is Sybil -- never know what you're gonna get from him.
Hughes has been good, but still can blow up at a moment's notice
Vazquez is in the bullpen -- 'nuff said
And the Nos. 4 and 5 starters are Mosley and Nova -- WTF??????

Unlike King Felix, Cahill, Buchholz or Price, CC has the "privilege" of basically single-handedly carrying a team expected to win its division and challenge for the World Series through a pennant race against an opponent whose rotation is about 1,000 times deeper and better.

Is the Yankees' lineup a luxury? Sure, on the rare occasions Sabathia hasn't had his best stuff, his teammates usually have scored enough to pick him up. But it's not like he needs more than 3 or 4 runs most nights.

And IMHO, the offensive advantage is mitigated by the pressure that comes with knowing that with these other donks behind him in the rotation, the Yankees can't afford to lose when CC starts. Every time he takes the ball, his team has to win -- if not, look for Tampa to start pulling away in the stretch, because I find myself cringing when I look at the box scores 4 out of 5 days now.

I'm sure Girardi feels the same when he fills out his lineup card.

I don't think you can say anyone is running away with it at this point.

I'm a voter. I'd vote for Felix if I had to cast a ballot today.

He has pitched better than CC by every reliable measure.

Since June 12th, the Yankees are 15-2 in games CC has started.

They are 30-25 in games he did not start since June 12th.

To me, that's enough to push him over the top for a Cy.
