    5-1 Orioles. Shit.

No, he does not deserve any extra consideration for the team's success. He already gets that from voters who consider his win total. This is an individual award, not a team one.

He averages 1/3 of an inning more than Cahill. Sorry, but that isn't enough to counter the lower ERA. Buchholz averages 2/3 of an inning fewer and he has missed some starts, but there is a huge difference between the two in ERA and he has a fantastic record on a weaker team (if you want to consider wins and losses, which you do.)

See if he hangs in there, something he normally does well on nights like this, rather than having to make an early exit. By the way, his ERA is nearly a run higher than Buchholz's at the moment.

At this point, I want CC to win for two reasons. The fist one is the Yankees need him to win. The secons one is that I get to be right and come back here and gloat.

It won't be nearly as much fun if I have to come back and eat crow.

Here's hoping for another "gritty" 7-inning outing where CC holds down the opposition after a poor start and the Yankees offense is able to come back and win the game for him.

If the Yankees do win tonight, are you going to say they won because he managed to give up 5 runs instead of 8?

Already too late for that argument.

Too bad CC couldn't get the support David Price is getting in Boston tonight. :)

Did I miss where the Rays have been mathematically eliminated from AL East contention?

Yankee fan, what is the difference between Sabathia's start last night and the one he had a couple starts a go when he gave up 5 ER's? He still pitched 6 and a third, where are the old school cliche's about this start? Did he not gut it out? Did he not give his bullpen a break? I guess the answer is...... his OFFENSE!

Not that they even deserve a top-three vote, but I just wanted to acknowledge the exploits of Rafael Soriano and Joakim Soria:

    Soriano: 41 saves, 1.66 ERA, 0.810 WHIP, 255 ERA+
    Soria: 37 saves, 1.71 ERA, 1.069 WHIP, 242 ERA+, 9.8K/9

Soria has converted 30 consecutive saves and hasn't given up a run since July 28.

Personally, I'd like to make a campaign contribution to Felix Hernandez, who is pitching even better than he did last year, when he was neck-and-neck freakin' with Greinke.

I mentioned Soriano and Soria earlier, just as evidence of why Mariano Rivera shouldn't win the Cy Young. He isn't even clearly the best relief pitcher in the American League this year. Those two have been every bit as good.
