I think we are only seriously talking about three real contenders -- Hernandez, Sabathia and Price. Maybe Cahill, too, though I don't think you can seriously put him ahead of any of the others.

I think it is important to look at the average run support for each guy.
    Sabathia: 5.79
    Price: 5.29
    Cahill: 4.44
    Hernandez: 3.07

And if TSP is right on this one, which I doubt, the voters will have failed miserably in their jobs.

Do you really think CC will win it over Felix?

Since this thread has started, Felix has been incredible. CC has been up & down, but mostly just so-so.

Even Price has probably moved ahead of CC.

If CC had pitched like I expected him to, I think he'd have a much better case. But Felix really has been that much better.

Also, I think there is obviously pressure in a pennant race, but you have to give Felix a ton of credit for bringing it every five days for a shitty team that has been out of the race for months.

And it can't be easy when you know that you basically can't afford to give up a single run, let alone two or three.

The sentiment has shifted toward King Felix. But it's not because he's been the best pitcher.

It's clearly shifted because Sabathia has fallen on his face. If he was at 22 or 23 wins, King Felix would have no shot.

I was wondering when TSP would start trying to move the goalposts. And there it is.

I agree with TSP on this. CC had a chance to go out & claim the Cy Young. He didn't

    ?

You must have forgotten commenting about my post where I said it's going to be hilarious when Sabathia wins.

The only reason many are thinking about voting for King Felix is because Sabathia has been lousy the last couple weeks, not because King Felix has been great. I guess in your world that's "moving the goalposts", but not many sane people live in your world.

Actually, what you have been saying all along is that Sabathia WILL win. Now, you are saying that he opened the door for Hernandez, thus changing our argument.

Sabathia's ERA has barely gone up at all since this discussion started. Hernandez's has gone down. The biggest difference over the last few weeks has been one dominant outing after another by Hernandez.

I just checked. This thread started Aug. 19. On that date, Sabathia was 16-5 with a 3.12 ERA. Right now, he is 20-7 with a 3.26 ERA. I guess that 0.14 in ERA is just going to kill Sabathia's case, right?

By the way, Hernandez was 8-10 with a 2.62 ERA on Aug. 19. He has been dominant since, dropping his ERA to 2.31 by giving up more than one earned run only once in seven starts.

So the more significant shift has come in Hernandez's numbers, not Sabathia's.

Who cares. He's pitched like you his last four starts.

Say all you want about W-L record being a flawed statistic, but IF CC had finished with 24 wins and Felix ended up with a 12-13 mark, I think many, many voters would have a hard time giving it to the King. Twice as many wins would be tough to overcome.

That said, Felix deserves the Cy, sub-.500 record or not. He also deserves to pitch for a real-live major league team, not the collection of Triple-A caliber scrubs (Ichiro not included, obviously) that Seattle has assembled.

Even as a Yankee fanboi, gotta feel for a guy pitching balls-out for a team that can't even manage to get him a couple runs of support on a semi-regular basis. Hopefully justice is served and he makes his way to a quality team sooner than later.

About this pressure thing, is there more pressure pitching in a 1-0 game when out of contention or pitching with a 5-0 lead when you are in contention?
