But of all the other years that the Cy has been awarded, this is the first time a pitcher has had "bad luck?" There had to of been other pitchers who pitched great, but did not get the run support. They were not given the award then, and I do not think it should happen now.

It's not like Sabathia or the other guys are having terrible years. You can make this arguement againt Phil Highes, but not CC.

Hell, Carlton won 27 or 23 on a team with 50-some wins.

What is your #1 stat in evaluating a pitcher?

    Why not?

ERA, WHIP, Ks and winning percentage

You still have to win the games. No matter how many or few runs you get, you have to win the games. Wins are not the only thing, but they have to be factored in.

    Why?

Then why not give the award to Cahill?

Because the team with the best ERA does not go to the World Series.

You play to win the game. And if Felix was given one run, he needed to give up none.

    Life is not fair.

    You're not answering the questions.

    Apples and oranges.

Why should a pitcher be punished for a lack of run support.

If you think that the award is like the MVP, and should go to a valuable member of a first-place staff, then that's fair, I suppose.

But it seems to me that you are saying that if Hernandez was 21-6 for a last-place team, that'd be all right with you for Cy Young purposes.

Wonderful logic, so you admit that you see the Cy Young as a team award.

The Cy Young has nothing to do with the World Series. It is supposed to be an individual award, he CAN'T control run support.

Cy Young's place in baseball history is secure based on his career win total.

Any baseball fan can tell you how many wins he had.

How many could tell you his ERA, let alone his WHIP?

Name it after someone else if you want it to be an ERA based award.

This is your argument? That it should be a wins-based award to honor the person it's named after, effectiveness be damned?
