Twins only 4.5 back after today. Are they contending now?

Also, to veer off course a little, the Twins have a really damn nice schedule down the stretch:

Three games apiece against Baltimore and Oakland, six with KC and Cleveland -- should easily win those series. Three against the Rangers, four against Blue Jays -- come close to splitting those. The rest of their games come from six with the White Sox (who are two in front of them) and seven against division-leader Detroit (up 4.5).

    Just sayin...

I know Michael Young could finish his career picking pieces of Pete Rose out of his stool and still not sniff the HOF because he plays in Texas, but you need to look at his stats this year. He's the only one hitting on a team that cloned Rob Deer seven times.

Would he be in your top three, if the season were to end today?

Good luck getting an answer on that one.

I don't think Michael Young lacks for nationwide respect. Six straight All-Star Games, on pace for his sixth 200-hit season in seven years, has been lauded for switching positions mulitple times for the betterment of the team. If he's not a HOFer, it's b/c he didn't record that first 200-hit season til he was 26 and didn't have a 20-90 season until he was 27. As good as he's been, he's still barely halfway to 3000 hits--which he'll need for consideration--a couple months shy of his 33rd birthday.

An outstanding player, but to get to 3,000 he'll need seven seasons like the ones he just had...from age 33 thru 39. Possible, but not very likely.

I'm not sure about Oz, but I was just waiting for another opportunity to poke holes in your argument. And if you were going to put Young in your top 3 but not Mauer, that would be interesting.

I've never called you a Yankee fanboi, but I would like to see a top three. If you're not interested in a rational, spirited conversation without the snark, I'll be here.

Sorry Oz. My bad. I started with the snark on that one.
