I think we would have heard about it if the problems had been the same, right?

Good read from Politico (I know, I know) on the Atlanta mess.

Interesting note is that the city of Atlanta isn't even 10 percent of the metro population.

So I know Kasim Reed is getting hammered but he's not really responsible for that much.

I dunno, LTL. Somebody mentioned the East Coast earthquake on this thread, and I realized I had completely forgotten about it happening at all.

Six lanes minimum in the midtown area. Eight lanes if you count HOV and the on/off ramp merging lane.

This. He's probably protesting a little much, but I'm not sure the brickbats being thrown his way are completely fair. He and Deal both were in no-win situations. I guess each of them could have made a call earlier, but that approach held potential for great criticism too.

Thanks for that. Nightmare from a political point of view. NIMBY run amok.

That too. Every time I go, I forget how much I hate driving there. I like driving in a place where no one passes on the wrong side.

If they don't take a $1 million or so and go on eBay for a couple of used plow trucks and salt spreaders after this I have next to no sympathy for the next time.

There was an ice storm during Super Bowl week in Atlanta when they hosted the game. I was there, and maybe I have selective memory, but I don't remember it being that bad, although people complained nonstop about it.

Thought about this thread at work last night, as many in the newsroom guffawed about the Atlanta area's traffic mayhem and cancelled NBA game caused by a couple inches of snow and ice.

I stuck up for you southerners (a bit) by noting if we ever had a blast of the August heat/humidity the Southeast endures, our prep football players (and overweight North Idahoans) would drop like flies.

"That's why we don't live there," a photographer noted.

OK, enough weather talk ... time to shovel 4-5 inches of snow off my driveway for the second morning in a row ... :)
