Absolutely. Sawchuck of the early 50's comes to mind, TOny Esposito's 15 shutout season (69-70), Hell even Cujo in some of his Maple Leaf years. He was that team – The year before he joined they were a 69 point team, and he almost singlehandidly turned them into a contender.

Local media said he will be re-evaluated after a week.

Did everybody see Crosby's diving goal last night? I don't mean diving in a penalty sense, I mean throwing himself at the pass in order to knock it in. Then he crashed into the net.

What a player -- how many others of any age are going to, a) even attempt something like that, and b) have the talent and coordination to pull it off?

Just saw the goal on the NHL's highlight reel:

Even more amazing, from the AP story:

Remarkably, Crosby's slide from his knees to his stomach wasn't entirely unintentional.

"I was going to two knees to try to find a better look at the puck," Crosby said. "The puck ended up coming a little bit ahead of me so I just lunged for it."

Goaltender Al Rollins also won the Hart for the Chicago Blackhawks in 1954

That despite a 12-47-7 record and a GAA of 3.23. Three years earlier he won the Vezina by going 27-5-8 and 1.77 for the Stanley Cup-winning Leafs.

But he did get five shutouts that year for the Hawks, who finished 37 points out of fifth place in a six-team league. Geez, people who think they're terrible now should thank their lucky stars.

Can anyone figure out the Lightning right now? They seem to have the talent to be a playoff contender, but are playing like Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde right now.

    I think it's Tortorella.

It sounds like his act has worn thin and he's overstayed his welcome.

But I don't think they can ditch him right now. Too soon after the Cup. Feaster's strongly in his corner as well publicly.

    Cup's irrelevant at this point.

Well, we just need Feaster to come up with the "We have complete confidence in John" speech.

Wow. That's impressive. Does it beat Ovechkin's on-his-back goal? Hmmm ...

Any quotes from Recchi anywhere? I wonder what his thoughts were/are on that goal.

Ovechkin's goal last year was better. But Orr's, which was similar to Ovechkin's (Cherry showed it on Coach's Corner last season) was even better yet.
