All-Purpose Hockey Thread II

Discussion in 'Sports and News' started by MertWindu, Sep 21, 2006.

  1. Malkin was dominating but his jumping high in the arms of Ryan Malone will not make many hockey goons in Toronto very happy. Typical Canadian goonery at the end by Maurice sending out Gill, McCabe, Green and Belak.

Does Belak get suspended for the spear? I doubt it.

If anyone wants to know why the NHL still has problems with the consistency by the officials, you had to hear Mark Madden's interview of Stephen Walkom..... pure 1990's way of thinking and not progressive.

1967 is a hard sell for quality skilled free agents.

Oh, crap. Didn't listen to the game tonight, but had the DVR running at home. Sounds like I missed a whole lot of action.

If it's about the standardized look, Aron can take it up with McPaper's staff. They were the ones who said some of the teams would experiment with different striping, etc.

According to McPaper's Michael McCarthy ...
The NHL and Reebok have been designing and testing the new uniforms for 30 months. That quiet period has spawned several myths, Jennings told USA TODAY. No, NHL players won't wear form-fitting garb like Olympic speedskaters. No, the new uniforms won't eliminate horizontal stripes, although some clubs will experiment with vertical striping next season.

I watched the Leafs-Pens game tonight, and I really don't think Malkin's leaping embrace of Ryan Malone was the reason for the Leafs' goonery. I think the fact Pittsburgh spent the entire game in Toronto's end of the ice and the eight goals was the impetus for the cheap shots and fighting. And what did it prove? Toronto threw punches and Pittsburgh retaliated five times (out of ten) on the power play.

Went to the game tonight. Absolutley insane. I counted about 10 fights in the stands. Saw cops pull about 4-5 people out of the stands. Saw one cop jab a Leafs fan in the chest with his billy club repeatedly. The last five minutes of the game you couldn't even pay attention to the ice because there was so much goofy stuff happening.

But there was actual hockey on the ice. A penalty shot, a hat trick, one player with five assists and 10 total goals by both teams. And about 4-5 fights on the ice.

It would have been nice if the Leafs had the passion the whole game they showed the last period.

I've been to Leafs-Pens games in Pittsburgh before, but never saw anything this out-of-control before.

  6. here's a good one from last night's game.

A drunk leafs fan turned around in his seat and punched a female Penguins fan. This is what started the majority of the fights.

pathetic showing by the Leafs and even worse one by their fans.

Something Michel Therien would never think of, I'm sure.

  8. Sea Bass - better yet, typical Toronto. It really is a shame Mats Sundin will never win a Stanley Cup. If he's smart, he takes the public relations hit this summer and goes to a Cup contender in need of a center like the Rangers or Senators.

Therrien has never sent out a goon squad during or at the end of a game to attack a team's superstar while being the head coach in Pittsburgh. Toronto, Philadelphia, and Islanders have all attempted to 'scare' the young superstars with the cheap shots but all that's happened is major blowout wins for Pittsburgh.

This stinks! No NHL games today, Monday or Tuesday! Why does the All-Star break have to be so long?

That's only because he's only been there a year and a half. The man is a loon.

  11. Sea Bass - Say what you want but the man is a great tweener for an organization. I don't think he's going to be in Pittsburgh after the season unless they make the playoffs because Shero wants his own man for the big run. Therrien is perfect for player development in the minors and a 1-2 year run in the NHL to complete the lesson for a crop of youngsters on the rise.

Well, other than Belak who's a goonlite, what's the point? Nothing to read into that move. McCabe & Green as goons. Please.

And that's what happens when the Leafs sell out all their games: drunken frat boys travel five hours and act like Flyers fans.
