Hey, Gretz, who own da Yotes?

Just thought I'd ask, since your players don't seem to know (or care).

Ugh ... at least it lets some people know that Jim Rutherford shouldn't ever be confused for a genius.

And on the six-point game, does having one in the Southern Professional Hockey League lead to greatness? ;D

Rutherford went to high school with Father Of Sea Bass, and was decidedly not a genius.

But while you can say what you want about him firing Maurice, he's built a Stanley Cup winner.

Jim Rutherford -- one of the Detroit Red Wing goalies victimized for five goals by Toronto's Ian Turnbull during one game in February 1977. Still a record for goals in a game by a defenceman.

I think, but am not certain, that Eddie Giacomin was the other goalie in that game, which the Leafs won 9-1.

Please ...... Stop the madness. I'm happy that Crosby's in the league and is putting up good numbers for a franchise in need of a boost but please, please, please stop the fawning!!! He's a great YOUNG player, but give him time and let him accomplish more things before he's annointed as such.

Not madness. Sid the Kid may be the best hockey player in the NHL right now. His six points the other night were brilliant.

Ovechkin may be flashier more often but the Baby Jesus has his share of higlight reel goals.

If I had to choose, I'd pick Crosby every time.

    Mr R,

What I've been saying all along. 'Course you didn't have to sit on OTR and have a career minor-leaguer from the Hamilton Bulldogs tell you you were full of shit for saying just that.

    YHS, etc

Jim Balsille pulled out of his bid to buy the Penguins.

    And no wonder:

Canadian billionaire Jim Balsillie today withdrew his offer to buy the Penguins after he and the National Hockey League reached a stalemate over terms in a last-minute consent agreement.

Among the NHL's several stipulations, sources close to the sale process said, are that Mr. Balsillie promise to keep the club in Pittsburgh regardless of the arena situation, and that he agree to contingencies for the NHL to step in and take over ownership or management of the team.

Who in their right mind would ever agree to conditions like that?

Pens-Isles game is on Yahoo tonight. Pens with 18 shots in the first. They're now getting ready to show the between-periods ownership news conference.

You think if the slots agreement goes through, Balsillie gets back in, or is this beyond repair at this point?

It's hard to say. It's all so sudden. Balsille was in Harrisburg talking to the slots board this week making the case for the Isle of Capri plan. And to go from that to cutting all ties is pretty extreme.
