Great joke. I've also heard it about guys from Saskatchewan.

Couldn't you substitute virtually every Canadian franchise for the Leafs?

You're a real shining example of holiday cheer, aren't you?

But since you brought it up, you could indeed substitute them, along with such storied American franchises as Chicago, Boston and Philadelphia. Not to mention St. Louis, Los Angeles, Buffalo, Washington, the New York Islanders...

There hasn't been any confirmation on how badly the tendons were severed. But he did have surgery last night in Chicago and flew back to Dallas today.

I'm just wondering how someone gets their wrist sliced through by a skate blade and no camera catches it. You'd think there'd be blood or something else noticeable. But he just left the game without any comment until the second intermission when it was announced he had an "upper body injury."

Second bizarre injury in recent days for Blackhawk opponents. Coincidental, of course, but weird. Weird also is that the Hawks have been Dallas' bitch in recent years, but now the Savard-led Hawks are 2-0 against Dallas. That probably speaks more to the Stars' troubles than Chicago suddenly becoming a force. Still, looks like the Hawks will be in contention for a playoff spot this season. Not that anyone in Chicago gives a shit at this point.

I guess Modano will be getting his "C" back...

Does anyone know if the cut tendons were on the top or bottom of the wrist? If it wasn't gruesomely bloody, I'm guessing top...

The problem with the captain thing is Modano is still out and not skating consistently. I bet Ott gets back before he does. My guess is they give it to Zubov or Barnes for the short-term, then deal with the C when Modano finally gets back.

And that's the thing. There was absolutely no video whatsoever, and, with NHL teams being so open about their injuries, I'm thinking "severed wrist tendons" is all we're going to get.

Somewhat random tangent for Irish - I took hockey classes from a guy who played for the Dallas Black Hawks. Great guy. Hell of a skater who made everything look way too damn easy in class.

The old CHL was a lot of fun, despite playing in a very non-hockey part of the world. The Dallas Black Hawks had 14 winning seasons in 15 years, but never averaged more than 3,500 fans. But, the new CHL has a lot of the old cities in the new mix. Always wondered what those Canadian kids thought when they were playing in front of 2,000 fans in places like Wichita.

I still maintain that "Cinderelli SUCKS!" began in Dallas during those Dallas-OKC Stars games. (Hi, Rosie!) :)

I don't think Calgary, Edmonton or Montreal qualifies, considering they have won the Cup in the last 20 years ...

And P.S. that is the first time I heard the story and it made me giggle. Lots.

So it's OK to make fun of the Leafs, but not other teams? :)

Well, yes, it's always OK to make fun of the Leafs.

I have a scar on my wrist that I got during a line change of all things. The blade cut through the leather holding the cuff together. I didn't realize that it happened until after a whistle and I felt what I thought was sweat running down into my glove. I took it off and the cut stopped just short of the artery.

It's entirely possible he got cut knew something was wrong and went right to the bench and down the tunnel.
