OK, I may be the only person in North America who thinks this way, but I don't think Stefan's gaffe was nearly as awful as Ferraro made it out to be.

Yes, it's unquestionably bad to miss an empty net on an uncontested breakaway. No getting around that. But Ferraro made it sound like it was some kind of affront to the entire sport. If you look at the replay, the puck hopped off his stick when he went to tuck it in. Shit happens.

Stefan nonchalanted it. There are no gimmes in hockey.

But you're right, Ferraro was slightly over the top but thank heavens for Stefan that they won the game.

Why didn't Stefan just fire a wrister into the empty net?

At least, luckily for Stefan, the Stars won the game in a shootout. He may be able to actually laugh about it considering they got the two points. Had Dallas lost, though ...

Why did he go to his backhand?

He was being lackadaisical and the rest of his teammates were caught standing still because they figured he had it sewn up. That's the reason the Oilers managed to make a seven second play for a goal from deep in their own end.

    Damn. Just watched the video.

That's dumb, no question. It did take a hop on him, but that's why you don't go to your backhand after the ice has been skated on for 19+ minutes.

Get to the top of the crease and slide it in on your forehand, pal.

The ice at Rexall Place is apparently having issues this season, and Stefan said he wanted to skate it in to avoid it hitting a pile of snow (uh, oops?).

His teammates should carry just as much, if not more, of the blame though for letting the Oil take it all the way back down and score in 8 seconds. Nitwits.

He was laughing about it after the game. And really, what else do you do?

Ferrarro played with Stefan for 3-4 years in Atlanta and apparently never liked the guy. That probably contributed to his over-the-top call of the gaffe.

    Good info, Kritter.

That would seem to explain it a little more.

No, there's no explaining that. Wish I had seen the game, especially because the Stars won, but man I think I would've had a friggin conniption fit if I had seen that live!

Malkin sees the clock is expring in the 2nd period and is 46 feet away from the net. Proceeds to smoke one past Ryan Miller. Goal at 19:57.

Great, GREAT win tonight for the Pens in Buffalo.

A game which includes, according to radio guys, the Pens' first empty-net goal since April 2, 2004.
