They've been playing good lately. Tuesday night they shutout your wife's Hurricanes, 3-0. If not for Cam Ward, it might have been 7-0.

It was probably the Penguins best defensive game all season long.

Iginla ... sprained MCL ... what's that? Four to six?

Depends on the sprain. If it's really just a tweak, a Grade 1 sprain without any tearing of the ligaments, probably 1-2 weeks. If it's a Grade 2 sprain, a partially torn ligament, 4-6 weeks minimum.

You talk about bad ice conditions, you'll likely get them tonight in Raleigh. N.C. State is playing Boston College in a game that started at 2 p.m. The Canes face the Islanders at 7.

Bruins score three goals in the first; Marc Savard finishes with three points and Boston beats Philly 4-3.

  9. When does Ed Snider pull the plug on this team and give Paul Holmgren the green light to blow it up and start over? Even if Peter Forsberg decides to play another year or two in the NHL, there's little doubt in my mind, he'll be playing in another city. I wonder if Peter wishes he would have taken the contract offer from Pittsburgh now that he's gone through his first real tour with the Flyers.

Pittsburgh played well last night thanks to some solid goaltending by Marc-Andre Fleury and the continued improvement and ever strengthening presence of center/left-wing Jordan Staal. Staal showed me something last night by ragging the puck just enough to create enough space for Dominic Moore to skate into the zone and fire the biscuit into an empty basket. This kid is going to be something special as he'll be afforded the opportunity to play against the lesser defensive units in the league with Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin on the top line.

Who makes the first real big trade of the 2006-2007 season to get an early jump on their playoff competition? Ottawa made a nice deal to acquire Mike Comrie but he's been so wildly inconsistent throughout his career, I'm not sure he's earned the right to be called a momentum changer. I would look at Long Islander as Garth Snow appears to be setting up his salary cap space for a big acquisition this season or free agent move this summer.

It didn't seem to bother the Hurricanes, though the ESA could use a little more time to turn the arena back from basketball to hockey.

More Stars injuries! Sergei Zubov missed tonight's loss to Calgary with back spasms. Oh, and backup goalie Mike Smith is day-to-day (and did not dress) because of a mild concussion after getting nailed in the mask with a puck against Edmonton.

    *walks Stars-fan-self into brick wall*

If you're going by talent, that's probably four of their six most talented guys on the shelf right now. Modano (hip) and Morrow (wrist) are still a ways away. Zubov (back) and Lindros (rib) are apparently close to being able to play. And agitator Steve Ott now his tendinitis in his broken ankle so he's been pushed back several weeks.

Who the fuck on that team forgot to sacrifice the rookie to the injury gods before this season?

There's an interesting time-lapse video of the changeover from basketball to hockey on the N&O site:
