I know first had how good he is watching him dominate the Oilers for two decades. Still, next to Bill Ranford, he is my favourite goalie.

I thought it was three years and after Gretzky's exemption one of the things they did was to put forth a rule that there would never again be any more exemptions.

    Bill Ranford? Yikes.

Was it Smith who scored the OT game winner against Belfour in that game 7? (After the miraculous Cujo save?)

    No, it was Todd Marchant.

Mats Sundin had a hell of a game tonight for the never-say-die Leafs -- four goals and two assists in a 6-5 overtime win over Florida.

The Leafs now have 14 of a possible 16 points in their last eight games. Is it too little, too late?

Ranford gave me my first great hockey memory, the 89-90 SC playoffs. The guy was unbeatable.

As well, not only was it Todd Marchant who scored the goal you speak of, he scored it on Andy Moog. Belfour was brought in the next year from his cup of coffee in San Jose. The Oilers haven't beat the Stars in the playoffs since, mostly due to the stellar play of Belfoour.

the waiting period is three years.

you know what, i really want the oilers to make the playoffs, but they are a bunch of choking dogs right now.

Calgary Flame Darren McCarty, making $800k this year, files for bankruptcy:

    http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2006604120385

"In documents submitted to U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Detroit, McCarty, 34, lists assets of $1.9 million and debts of $6.2 million -- including at least $185,000 to casinos in Detroit and Las Vegas."

I can think of a few athletes who've filed after their careers were done, but none who filed while they were still bringing home big paychecks.

The Leafs are giving J.S. Aubin a one-year contract. He's pretty much kept them on life-support for the last three weeks or so.

And a one way contract at that.

I guess they're hedging on Tellqvist. I guess since Eddie won't be back in Leafsland next year, they figure Aubin and Tellqvist taking turns riding the street car to the Ricoh Centre.

Hopefully he doesn't get jerked around like he was with the Penguins. Craig Patrick and company had him back and forth between Pittsburgh and Wilkes-Barre so many times, Aubin should've been a PennDOT employee.

After the Barrasso era, can anyone think of a half decent Penguins goalie?

Given the way they've mishandled Fleury's career they may be the leading goalie-killer team.
