Beef, I know it wasn't you.

How about the "China Wall" (Johnny Bower)

I always liked "Olie the Goalie" (Kolzig).

And my favorite line nickname of modern times was "The Legion of Doom" (Lindros, Recchi, Renberg).

Johan Hedburg was called "Moose" during his brief run here in Pittsburgh.

I remember a story on this iin the Edmonton Sun several years ago (written either by Terry Jones or Robert Tychkowski), back when the Oilers were one of the worst offenders of the nickname world. Many of the guys I listed of course were off that team others included the likes of Jason Arnott (Arnie) and Boris Mironov (Bobo). Their only saving grace - both in that regard and litterally on the ice was Cujo and jason Smith who's known as Gator because of his love for the Florida Gators (including a tattoo on his back or shoulder or something). It got to the point where they tried to come up with cooler nicknames for the players when deemed appropriate. Bill Guerin, for example, was known for a short time as 'Butcher' Billy Guerin for carving up Mike Modano's face with a high stick at the end of a playoff game. And I think this time was also responsible for giving the chainsmoking Andrei Kovalenko the name Tank.

Another one for my Favourite list - 'Ace' Bailey.

Still is, I think. But didn't that originally start because of his helmet? Being called up from the Manitoba Moose, he played with that helemet for a while until he got one in Pittsburgh colours, but he still kept the Moose encorporated with his design.

How about Pat Verbeek aka "The Little Ball of Hate".

I'd like to have that on a business card.

Also the nickname of a halfback in the CFL - Josh Ranek, I think he signed with Hamilton this year. Good, tough, little back.

Ken "The Rat" Linseman (courtesy of Bobby Clarke)

And Beef's right about Hedberg. Funny because we were just talking about him today. Some guy at my local thought the Moose goalie was JS Aubin.

Basically yeah. The next season he had a new helmet that said, "Moose" on it but it was black and gold. He had a bad spell and went back to the old blue and white "Moose" helmet.

He even briefly endorsed a "Moose" sundae at a local restaurant chain here too.

Loved the blue and white helmet. In the Penguins uniform it made him look like a guy who worked for "Rent a Goalie".

Kind of what Dwayne Rolosson looked like for a few weeks after joining Edmonton.

And in what could be the match of the season, the horrible Penguins play here against the choking dog Maple Leafs.

Me, I'm going to see the Yankees & the Jays.
