And St. Louis will draft first overall in Vancouver:

NEW YORK (CP) — The St. Louis Blues won the NHL draft lottery Thursday, retaining their first overall pick in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
The draft is scheduled for June 24 at GM Place in Vancouver.
Pittsburgh will pick second, followed by Chicago, Washington and Boston.
The Blues, who finished the regular season with the fewest points (57), had the greatest chance — 25 per cent — of winning the lottery.
Under the NHL lottery system, only the five teams with the fewest points had a chance to win the first overall selection. No team could move up more than four spots and no team could move down more than one.
The Blues have never selected first overall in their 39-year history. The club’s highest pick was forward Perry Turnbull, selected second overall in 1979.
Columbus will pick sixth, followed by the New York Islanders, Phoenix, Minnesota, Florida, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Toronto and Vancouver.
The remaining draft positions will be determined by the playoffs.

And the head honcho at MLSE provides two completely asinine quotes about today's Quinn firing:

Richard Peddie, president and CEO of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, gave Ferguson a vote of confidence when asked whether the Leafs were looking to install a hockey supremo as they did by appointing Bryan Colangelo to run the NBA Raptors.
“John’s our top hockey guy,” Peddie told Leafs TV after the announcement.
Peddie said the Leafs are looking for a proven winner as coach.
“Rookies need not apply,” he said.

Apparently it's only okay to be a rookie if you're a GM or a CEO. ::)

As I've said, Leafs fans, it's not too late to join me on the Sens bandwagon. The Leafs are, as Tiger Williams would say, done like dinner.

Do you figure they are waiting for the axe to fall on Marc Crawford?

I thought they offered some of those guys front office Jobs? I'm almost sure they offered Richard one, but he couldn't stand being stuffed away in an office with nothing to do. Richard was also given the opportunity to be the first coach in the history of the Quebec Nordiques going back to the WHA days. I don't think he made it out of the preseason before he quit due to the stress.

Richard Peddie is a first class asshole.

Double J, the Sens ??? Did you get a puck in the head covering a game in Durham?

Good Lord, would you cheer for a team that Dalton McGuinty supports?

barring an upset, paul maurice will be the coach in toronto. the young players who were in the ahl rave about him and hes got nhl experience.

as for patrick, sorry pittsburghers, but i dont think theres ever been a more overrated gm. how bad would this franchise be if they hadnt won the crosby lottery? yeesh.

and hes also a total liar.

Is this a mistake?  Or is this a change brought about in the new CBA?  The playoffs have never had anything to do with the order before, have they?

This could probably go on the baseball thread too. Hopefully somebody from Boston heard this and can verify if Gammons actually said it or not. I'm merely passing on something somebody told me.

Supposedly Peter Gammons was on WEEI earlier today and said Bill Wirtz wants to sell the Blackhawks and his interest in the United Center to Jerry Reinsdorf. Then he wants to turn around and try and buy the Cubs.
