Not quite. The article is wrong. Gary Green was only 26 when he took over the Washington Capitals in 1980.

And he had already coached Peterborough to two Memorial Cup apperances (including one win) and Hershey to a Calder Cup prior to that.

Double J, never heard that about the Green. I always thought they prefaced anything with Maurice by saying "youngest coach in NHL history".

    Write the Star. :)

I've done that before for other things. They don't even bother to reply, much less acknowledge their many fuck-ups.

Don't get me wrong, it's good reading most of the time but they can be just as arrogant as the (dethroned :D) London Knights.

So nice to see the Knights go down. And that little prick Schremp was a class act to the end. At the end of the game he fired a puck into the Petes bench, almost hitting Todd and then started throwing the f-bomb at the referees. Whata dick.

Peterborough taking the title was one of the best of many great birthday presents.  :D

Only thing better would have been the Troops taking it. (Looserfanboy speaking)

That was pretty funny, but the fact is Green coached them to the franchise's best-ever season to that point. They still didn't make the playoffs but they were also playing in the toughest division in the league at the time (they were in the Patrick with the Flyers, Islanders, Rangers and Flames).

Well, if nothing else, Maurice has a good sense of humour unlike his dour predecessor:

`You don't get a lot of sympathy from a table of one-eyed people.'

After suffering a serious eye injury in 1985, Maurice recalled how he went home for some sympathy from a father who lost an eye and a brother who had been blind in one eye since birth.

`You can use any explanation that you can possibly think of tonight because there can't be a logical one. Aliens came down and took over Trottier's helmet? I'm not sure.'

After a game during the 2000 season in which referee Richard Trottier called several controversial penalties against his Carolina Hurricanes.

`You've got a job here as long as you want to coach. Eighteen years later, they fire me. Can you believe that? Where's the loyalty in this game?'

On being fired by the Hurricanes in 2003-04.

`You treat everybody fairly but you can't possibly treat everybody equally or we'd all be trying to buy his house.'
    On Leafs captain Mats Sundin.

`I do find quite a few things quite funny. A room this big interviewing me is one of them.'

    On his sense of humour.

`Yeah, we're workin' on it. C'mon people, work with me here.'

During the 2002 Stanley Cup final, Maurice was asked about Carolina's power play and responded with a line from the movie Slap Shot that was met by silence.

I remember when that happened. Anybody covering pro hockey who didn't recognize the line should have immediately been fired. Disgraceful.
