Actually it ensures another season of mediocrity in 2008 or 2009 since I don't think there are too many in this draft that can step in right away.

And just to really lock it up, they're signing Brian McCabe for 5 years. :-\

Armchair posted this on the playoff thread:
    This benefits Team Canada's dump-and-chase, circle-the-puck offense.

They said they're doing doing this to save money. Fine, but you'll spend millions of dollars for an opening ceremony with hundreds of fuckheads in white leotards telling me the story of Vancouver through interpretive dance?

And I just realized this was my 3,000th post. Yay for me.

Really, it only makes sense considering the number of international tournaments that have already been successfully staged over the years on North American ice.

Remind me to skip the opening ceremony. :-X

The lead says it all: "It won't be dull, that's for sure."

So in the Islanders hierarchy we now have:

Pat LaFontaine, special consultant to the owner
Mike Milbury, vice-president of something or other
Bryan Trottier, director of player personnel
    Neil Smith, general manager
    Ted Nolan, head coach

How long before war breaks out in Nassau County?

But if it renews the Islanders' old rivalry with the Rangers and helps to create a big buzz in the greater New York-New Jersey area, hey, bring it on.

The last Nassau County turf war involved the Crips, Bloods and Latin Kings. That was bloody. This one will be expensive.

What's going on in Boston? The Peter Chiarelli-Jeff Gorton brain trust began interviewing coaches this week, headlined by...Pat Quinn? Considering the Bruins are going to be a very young team next season, is Quinn the best man for the job?

From Kevin Paul Dupont's Sunday notes column:

That's funny considering Quinn once needed an armed police escort out of the Gahden after knocking Bobby Orr cold with a shoulder check during the 1969 playoffs.

BTW, Bruins fans, I love Bobby Orr as much as anyone, but I've seen the clip and it was Quinn's shoulder, not his elbow, so don't even start. ;D

Seriously? I thought I heard Quinn back to Vancouver ... but I can't really see that happening.

Thought I'd bump this back to the top since the playoffs are over.

Apparently, the Leafs are saying that their most pressing need right now is a #1 goaltender.

Funny, I thought it was getting McCabe inked to a deal.

    And draft is Saturday.
