I'm assuming you're referring to Jason Allison.

If the price is right and he's healthy, that might be the signing that puts them over the top. They addressed their biggest need this offseason by adding some offense with Tanguay. They're second biggest need was a top center. Allison will fill that.

My 500th post has got to be about hockey. I am excited for the new season -- training camps open this week -- and I can't believe that one of the teams I really want to see in person this year is the Ducks. I'm happy the Devils will make a West Coast swing in late November.

    Bring on the hockey season!!

It's a circus in Hempstead. An absolute circus.

ESPN.com's Scott Burnside absolutely ripped the deal. http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/columns/story?columnist=burnside_scott&id=2584726

Well, this about sums it up in the Burnside article:

DiPietro, 25, handles the puck exceedingly well, and he has no shortage of confidence. But he has shown a tendency to go sideways, not just for a period or two, but for days at a time when things don't go his way. He was below average prior to the Olympics last season as the Islanders dug themselves an early hole. He was average at the Olympics as the Americans won one game during the Torino tournament. He was above average down the stretch when the Islanders were effectively eliminated from the playoff race.

Rick DiPietro's new deal is meant to keep him with the Islanders until 2022.
Average it out and you've got an average goalie (3.02 goals-against average, .900 save percentage) at an average price -- for a stupefyingly long period of time

DiPietro's contract makes A-Rod's contract seem like a good deal!

I posted this on the DiPietro thread, but it also fits here:

    Now, that'sfunny.

If you're an Islanders fan, go ahead and buy that DiPietro jersey. He's not going anywhere.

I think the thing that's stunning about this deal is the length and the total number of dollars. But if you break it down, he's only earning $4.5 million per year. That's very cap-friendly and it should allow them to add players as need be. It's not as restricting a deal as the one Yashin signed.

The other thing it does is that shows that the one of the most unstable organizations in sports has some stability; DiPietro ain't going anywhere for a long time.

For Buffalo fans, or fans of ugly logos, the shit-ass logo has been painted on HSBC center ice, revealing the wordmarks that Quinn was quick to defend the logo with:

Thanks, madhavok; figured someone would post that abomination. The best line I've heard so far compared it to yellow snow...

I'm no fan of the satanic goathead, but who in their right mind could consider that an improvement?

I was hoping all along that this was some cruel joke and that the petition by fans was going to work, but no, that has got to be the ugliest logo in the NHL. I didn't quite think it was the ugliest – it was pretty bad – until I saw it on ice, now it looks 10 times worse. Terrible.
