The diving rules were rarely implemented I think only two or three players ever got as far as a hearing. Not sure if anyone was suspended, I think there might have been one. But they have to actually enforce this rule this year, let players know that they aren't going to get away with dropping like a sack of bricks.

I know they were testing the enlarged nets out during the Maple Leafs rookie tournament that also included the Canadiens and Florida and York University. I hated it (although I just saw the highlights) and judging by the scores, they didn't exactly increase a whole lot.

I saw that about the nets.

Note to NHL: Enforce the rules you have AND STOP FUCKING AROUND WITH THE GAME.

I swear to God, when I first read the headline on TSN.ca, I thought they were bringing him back as a player.

If they could fit in in the cap they would probably pay him $5 million to.

This way he can make $5 million and it won't count against the cap.

Honestly, they jersey's aren't that bad, they would look a lot better with the original logo in the middle, but they could have been a whole lot worse. Even the buffaslug looks OK on it. That being said I think the logo looks like shit on the ice, and it can't hold a candle to their last logo, the realistic buffalo head which I really liked as well.

Great column in today's Toronto Star about city taxpayers getting fucked up the ass to the tune of $46 million so the Leafs and their farm team can have a new practice facility.

This after $30 million was spent only a couple of years ago to refurbish the CNE Coliseum to provide Toronto's AHL team with a new home. The taxpayers only have $20 million left to go on that debt.

    Read it and weep

MLSE, putting up no money up-front, gets a brand new practice centre for the Leafs and Marlies (as long as they're around), plus control of arena naming rights and where have you heard that one before? MLSE also gets 80 per cent of revenue from rinkboard advertising. Other than (undisclosed) rent paid to the Lions for dedicated practice and team space when the facility opens — a whopping 26,000 square feet that will be off limits to taxpayers — its main contribution appears to be the presence of the almighty logo.

Taxpayer contribution at this point is limited to a construction loan guarantee that a Sept. 6 city staff report pegged at $46 million over 35 years and look at that term: 35 years. Can you think of an arena that can go 35 years without requiring extensive refurbishing? It's like taking out a 12-year car loan on a vehicle that lasts six years. Dumb.

The richest franchise in pro hockey putting the bottom line ahead of any chance to win a championship? My goodness, who would have ever believed it? ::) This is totally fucking sickening. It's the kind of thing that should be an election issue.
