Profile on Jim Jim Balsillie, CEO of RIM Corp.

He plays just about everything — basketball, tennis, badminton, golf, backgammon, even darts — and plays each of them to win.

Hockey, though, is his biggest love, and he has gone so far as to name some of the board rooms at RIM's corporate headquarters after NHL greats like Gordie Howe.

    and

These days, he has moved up to right-wing, where he religiously patrols the ice every Sunday and Thursday night with a group of recreational players, often barking out orders to teammates, according to those familiar with him.

David Johnston, the president and vice-chancellor of the University of Waterloo, said he doesn't mind one bit that he never had the chance to face off against Mr. Balsillie.

"His speed is a little faster than mine," said Mr. Johnston, a two-time hockey All American at Harvard during the early 1960s. "Listen, he's very competitive. I'm quite happy I'm not facing Jim. I'd want to play on his team, not against him."

He did, but because he only played in nine regular season games last year he still qualifies as rookie. the cutoff is at to keep rookie status is something like 30 or 35 games. I suppose I could look it up, but you know ...

No, you're right. And 19 year olds can't be sent down to the AHL. Gotta go back to their junior teams for the balance of the season

Oilers and Flames tonight, can't freaking wait. Should be a hell of a game. best rivalry in the NHL, hands down. There is a lot of hate in the Toronto and Ottawa, but it isn't near the Battle of Alberta. The cities are raised to hate eachother in every instance possible. Plus it helps that both teams are credible.

Yeah, but we win because we've got the nation's capital plus the Centre of the Universe against some rubes drilling for oil and herding cattle. :)

Battalion play tonight. Should be home in time for the Flames/Oilers. And Beef, you're right. It's certainly the best rivalry right now. But let me tell you, when the Avs were the Nordiques, the Montreal/Quebec City rivalry may have been one of the best in ALL of North American sports.

Being a Westerner my loyalties still reside with the Battle of Alberta. The 80's was the golden age of the rivalry, it has really just come back in the pst few years, although it never really died out.
But it is hard to argue the Nord's Habs rivalry. Both were definitely bloody as all hell.

Umm, no. That ship sailed in 1998. The Oilers will remain in Edmonton for the forseeable future especially with the new salary structure and plans for a new downtown arena in the works.
