There are a more than a few NHL franchises that are on less than solid ground in their current cities, more than just Pittsburgh.

And I know that JR already addressed this, but I wish the NHL-to-Hamilton talk would just go away. It neither will nor should happen.

29 seconds into the 2006-07 New York Rangers' season, Captain Jaromir Jagr puts a puck past Olie The Goalie. 1-0 Rangers.

Chad Kilger pumps a shorty past Martin Gerber, and Kyle Wellwood follows up with a nifty wrister to the short side on the PP to put the Leafs up on what I think I'll start calling the Uber-Soft Senators, 2-0 in the first.

Made me feel better about picking Jagr No. 1 in the SportsJournalists.com fantasy draft.

Brendan Shanahan scores two goals, including the 600th of his career, in the Rangers' 5-2 win over the Washington Ovechkins. Alexander Semin and Rico Fata scored for Washington.

Holy shit. The Blackhawks have scored six goals, and they're winning.

    Make that seven.

Oh, and the Penguins shutout Philly tonight 4-0. I know it's a long season, but it's been a long time since I felt so good about their chances going into a season.

    I didn't catch the opener. I've been busy post-padding, er, watching Dodgers-Mets.

Very encouraging to see Marc-Andre Fleury start off so well (40 saves).

Also gave up 40 shots. While I'd love to see MAF play this well every night, there's no reason to think this was anything more than lightning in a bottle tonight. My fear is that the defense isn't all that much better than last year. Even if MAF is better, he's going to see bunches and bunches of pucks.

Ol' 15-years has held the mighty Coyotes to 6 through a period and a half. Nice contract. I'll now kick my own ass for drafting him in the SportsJournalists.com league.

I'm not sure what's more shocking; The Blackhawks scoring eight goals or Josef Melichar scoring a goal.

And nice to see Rick DiPietro is earning that extension. Six goals on 19 shots already.
