Colby Armstong leveled Trevor Letowski tonight with a blind-side hit. Letowski was carried off the ice on a stretcher.

    Hurricanes won 5-1.

Compared to what Orpik did to Erik Cole the last time the Hurricanes were in Pittsburgh ... well, this one wasn't as bad.

Nice to see the Hurricanes get it in gear. Finally.

Great game tonight for Mats Sundin. He scored a hat trick as the Leafs beat Calgary 5-4 in overtime. The third goal was the winner -- and the 500th of his career. Congrats, Mats.

I disagree. Armstrong intended to hit Letowski hard and put him down. I'm not going to say he intended to hurt Letowski, but he meant to put him off his feet.

Orpik's hit was different. He went to engage Cole along the boards. The instant he got there, Cole bent down to avoid the hit and was in a bad position along the boards. By that time Orpik had all his momentum going towards Cole.

Gionta does it again, this time lifting the Devils over the Flyers. Carry on.

FWIW, here's the Armstrong obliteration of Letowski

Good to see Staal with two assists to break out of his slump with the Canes, who have now won five straight games leading to Thursday's big matchup with Buffalo.

Ah, an old favorite thread re-emerges. Nice to see the original thread back.

    Have the Sabres stopped scoring?

They stopped at six, if you can believe that. See my rant on Hockey Thread II: Electric Boogaloo.

I bumped this thread. Why post on the sequel when you can post on the original?

Is there any talk about changing the point system? A TSN guy last night said he was worried about the NHL adopting the system used at the world juniors: 1 point for an OT or SO loss, two points for an OT or SO win and three points for a regulation win. He wishes (but it will never happen) that they'd go with just wins and losses so that the standings could be just like most other leagues.
